Dodgy Maxtor hdd?

I bought a 320gb Maxtor a few week back and I've only just hooked it up a couple nights ago. It makes a clicking sound now and then, not sure if that's normal. Installing WinXP hasn't been an easy task and a couple times when I've downloaded stuff (Firefox, MSN etc) sometimes the download is corrupt! I was gonna run Maxtor's Powermax utility, but now Windows seems to be failing to communicate with my Floppy Drive properly (I have been using to make SATA/RAID disks and stuff, so it can't have suddenly died) so I can't make a bootdisk.

Checkdisk comes up with unreadable sectors and stuff... has this HDD snuffed it?

It might be that the drive is not working correctly, the best thing to do is run the PowerMax software available on the Maxtor website as it has its own diagnostic tools.

I'd RMA it asap if i were you. I had an Maxtor 80gb HDD a couple of years back, started making clicking noises, next thing i knew it had died altogether
