Dodgy memory controller or dodgy memory?

Up until a couple of weeks ago, I was using DDR3 memory. I noticed that my stable overclock was slipping lower and lower until it wouldn't even go above 2.7GHz on the CPU. I've put the DDR2 back in and I'm back to my previous stable overclock of 3.24GHz. So is it the DDR3 memory controller on my motherboard that's dodgy or the memory sticks themselves?

As above give memtest a whirl - if you get random errors all over teh place then its likely the controller is shot, overheating, undervolted or something...

If your getting lots of similiar error types in close locations then its more likely the memory is faulty or wrongly configured.
