Ok, so I have a laptop (or a friend does anyways) and it's connected to the internet via a wireless card (DLink 600 i think).

Here's the infuriating problem...

Most of the time, the DLink monitor says there is a good or v.good connection, however the network connection fluctuates lots. Sometimes it works fine, then it suddenly cuts off. There's still good signal strength, but the internet cuts off. In particular on things such as skype, I don't think I've had longer than a 20second call using it.

Could anyone guess what the problem is? I've tried it without firewalls and it's running mcaffee virus protection but that's it I think. I just can't figure it out :(

Nothing wrong at all mate

From what I have read it happens to everyone on a Laptop for some reason
Theres no problem with my Belkin Wireless USB Network Adaptor, but on our Laptop with integrated WIFI, that is ok for 0 - 20 mins max, then cuts out 3 or 4 times in the space of 5mins

my mums built-in 802.11b/g intel wireless adapter on her laptop doesnt cut out
to the OP: does the friend use P2P programs while making the call?
also are they on ADSLMAX? or standard ASDL?

Well I think they're just plain ADSL and they don't use anything else when using skype. Another point I've just thought of...at uni, she uses a network card, not wifi, and the internet works fine. I'm just wondering whether it's the card that's the problem, or more likely, some settings. (as the card always is connected with good signal strength)

I had problems with 1st gen Netgear cards till i updated the card firmware and router firmware, I also recall having issues with the later DLINK PCMCIA cards but my inbuilt 80211/g works fine with both my b router and my g router depending on what's plugged in at the time. Have you checked if the SSID is on broadcast as this has been linked to dropped connections in the past iirc ?
