does 7800gt fan change speed

only realy noticed this (as i dont turn my computer off often) but when my computer starts up the fan on my 7800gt seems to spin realy fast but as soon as my computer gets into windows it slows right down (to almost being silent)

im going to assume this is normal?

Yes thats normal, unless you have a 7800GT with the fan copntrol fault that other people are talking about. My 7800GT is fast during boot up and then slows right down in WIndows XP.

Once in XP I think the fans speeds are 35% (2D), 35% (Low Power 3D), 55% (3D) and then increasing from those speeds as temperature increases.

Yep all normal m8 my BFG 7800GT work`s like yours

Hi there smithy1983, i have the BFG 7800GT OC and it does as you descibe. Sometimes i also notice the fan speed change when quitting a game and returning to windows. So i think your card is fine, nothing to worry about. Hope this helps.
