does 8800 need heatsinks for memory?

I saw no negative changes when i removed the stock cooler on my GTX to WC it with naked RAM and the DTEK fusion hasnt allowed me any more mhz on the RAM.
My only concern was when i added some Swiftech Ram sinks, some fell off and could have shorted my XFi below.

You have to make sure to clean the memory modules with something like isopropyl alcohol before applying the thermal tape.

Done that as i have done with countless other cards but didnt make any difference. The ramsinks didnt cost me anything anyway so nothing lost.
 
Listen to the voice of experience - Weescott knows his stuff! I remember this debate back in the BH-5 days (sniff - happy times - sniff). One of the large Ram manufacturers even admitted that the heatsinks were put on purely to help justify the exorbitant cost of the top quality ram (bling-credibility - never underestimate its market value ;) )

As mentioned - in some cases removing the poorly designed and badly fitted Ramsinks actually allowed better clocks in some cases. But more importantly, if you dig around on XS circa 2 years ago there were guys trying phase/DI to get records and decided that it was mostly pointless (puts the ramsinks into perspective!) There was even a chap who hooked up a phase rig to the ram on his GFX card and saw no benefit. If -60C doesn't help - fan/copper isn't going to help :)

But if you like bling, have cash to burn that you can't otherwise spend, or just feel generally inferior because your GFX card doesn't look extra bristly - by all means - I like the Zalman ones and use them myself (Arctic Silver Epoxy ***)

Indeed, the Zalman ones look great...here they are on my 7900... I'll probably buy another set for my new GFX card
