Will a 4850 card work on the DFI NF4 SLI-DR? I had a 8800gt in there no problem before so does this mean a 4850 will be ok? I'm not sure if this MB is 1.0a or 1.1.
Thanks
Michael
It'll be fine. The compatibility problem stems from some v1.0a motherboards not being able to correctly initialise v2.0 cards. The 8800GT is a v2.0 card, so if it worked any other v2.0 card will also work. Will a 4850 card work on the DFI NF4 SLI-DR? (the 8800GT is a pretty infallible test of compatibility btw, because it defaults to PCI-e 2.0 mode and just won't work if the motherboard can't handle that. Radeons start up in 1.x mode, so they're easier for old boards to cope with)
There was a great article about this somewhere, damned if I can find the URL for it after all these months. But it's not hard to find reference the the 'fixed' BIOSes released by NVidia board makers that lock the card into v1.x mode at power-up.
well finally got a true answer and yes they will work in pci express 1.0a
this was from a technician at ati.so the cards will be okay.
i asked why they didn put this info out as a lot didnt think it would work and they said it was to do with the busy release and them not being out long.
so time to order. will add email they sending me later stating the evidence.
Erk.. which ASRock board was this? I have the dualsata2, which uses a ULi 1.0a chipset.I have a 8800GTS 512 (PCI Express 2.0) and it wouldn't work in my old ASrock motherboard, which I believe was PCI Express 1.0.
yeah there the boards asrock ones that have problems with quite a few new cards.think its the via chipset that does it.
