Does a HDCP monitor and GFX card automatically upscale?

If I play back normal DVDs on my HDCP monitor (at max res) would they automatically be upscaled?

do I need to play the normal DVDs through the Bluray drive?

Yes - but it depends on the software as to how intelligent the upscaling is.

It depends on the codec WMP uses but PDVD 7 and 8 work fine for me (DVD to 1080p and HD-DVD to 2560*1600).
