Does a long MOT effect part ex value

Well after my car passed its MOT today without any drama or advisories I'm completely split as to whether to keep it or not.

Just so I can take everything into account I was wondering does having 12 months MOT have much of an impact on what I would be offered in part ex at a dealer? Assuming they would give me anything at all that is :o If there is little difference I might come back to the new car idea in 6 to 9 months or so.

Car in question is a 98 1.4 306. Good overall condition. 113k. Bust aircon and airbag fault light on.

Thanks in advance.

MOT doesn't matter to dealer in the slightest. In fact they will prefer to do MOT before they actually flog the motor to new buyer...

It won't affect the value, it will however, affect whether they'll take it off you or not. I can't see any dealer being interested in an untested car.

A car with 12 months MOT would be more interest privately as they see it as 12 months of hassle free of worrying about whether it'll pass it's MOT :)

You'd probably fetch a few hundred quid more selling privately than to a dealer, although you have the hassle of finding a buyer.

I would sell privately but its got the aircon and airbag problems, although I'm not sure what people expect from a cheap 9 year old car?

Its a head vs heart thing. It makes sense for me to keep hold of the 306 for another year then get shot or run it into the ground but I've got the new car itch. Doesn't help that I've basically decided what I want too :(

Just to throw a spanner in the works though Janes car sounds like a tractor, I was convinced it was the exhaust so I took it to be done and the exhaust was fine  So if thats on its way to the scrapyard in the sky then she'll be needing a new car and we can't afford 2 decent cars :( Well we could but it would leave us nowt in the bank and I don't think I want to go the finance route just for the sake of an upgrade.

Keep it until you can be sure that she won't need a new car. I'm sure you'd rather have money in the bank and a car that does its job, rather than no money but a newer car.

You have to go with your head in this situation, going with what you 'want' over what you 'need' in this situation is not wise IMO.

Sounds like a tractor you say ? Like it's not running properly? or just loud? If it's misfiring, it might be worth changing the spark plugs, HT leads, coil, ignition module etc etc a full service might help.

Wise words I think. I guess there will always be things I want :p

Its a weird sound, kind of like a really rattly old diesel transit van. Her's is a petrol by the way :p

The sound I guess is like a deep metallic rattle which comes and goes but is generally getting worse.

In terms of how it runs, well- occasional misfires/hesitations, lumpy idle, some starting problems although that isn't that common. It still pulls well enough though despite sounding like its going to go pop

What upgrade do you have in mind?
Something that would probably get me lynched on here so not much point in me saying :p

I was after an Octavia VRS but whilst I can get one for my budget I'm looking at the lower end of the market, so after something a little cheaper in both purchase and running costs. Plus I hate the interior :o
