Does a strategy game like this exist?

Supreme commander forged alliance?

81x81km maps and 10,000 units per player :p

online is a bit crap as it's just rush spam but off-line you can dl some better AI that specialize in different things (low tech unit spam rushing or high tech units in smaller numbers or naval warfareopr even another massive turtle)
 
Supcom is pretty good, as is comand and conquer generals zero hour.

just put a huge defense around 2 oil rigs and build to your hearts content keeping a small supply of jets handy for when the AI builds nukes etc.

Problem with C&C is after you have played awhile the AI seems to completely come to a halt and do nothing :(.


Another game worth mentioning is battle for middle earth 1-2. both great games but with some AI issues too.
 
Forde, have you tried any mods for TW games? Rome and MedII/Kingdoms in particular have some great stuff. Literally dozens of mods available, and hundreds of sub-mods!
 
Supreme Commander Online custom games with no rush rules. Good for 2 hour games +. Not sure what the online scene is like nowdays for it though.

I've messed around with mods for otehr games, but not TWs. Are they easy to install? M:TW2 is still one of my all-time faves.
 
Definitely sounds like you need Supreme Commander Forged Alliance in your life!

Back at uni we played a Sup Com original multiplayer game on the huge map with 4 main islands all about 60km apart - we played 10 hours straight :/

Varies mod to mod, but generally I've had no trouble, and I'm an idiot :p

Lots of good mods for MIITW (although you do need Kingdoms for a lot of them), some offering just small gameplay changes, others being total conversion mods like Third Age TW (Lord of the Rings), Broken Crescent (medieval period from a more muslim perspective) etc.
