Does an ethernet "connector" exist??

Basically I need around a 13m ethernet cable to wind through my house to get online with my PS2. Problem is, I dont want to spend £30 on a 15m cable when I have 2 x 7.5m cables just lying around!!

Is there such a thing as a "connector" or hub to feed both into and make the 15m I need?
I have a network hub but it needs power and I'm not sure it will act as just one cable from my router to my PS2!!

Anyone have any ideas???

You should be able to get a female to female ethernet adapter. I have one for converting a crossover cable to a normal patch cable.
 
You'll need a straight-wired female to female RJ45 coupler.

Can't tell you where to get one though, as any shop I suggest is likely to be an OcUK competitor.

On another note, if the cheapest 15m patch lead you can find is £30, then you're not looking hard enough!

For some reason, OcUK only sell patch cables up to 10m long here for £5.82 inc vat. But they do sell a 15m crossover cable for £8.17. This is no good to you though as you need a straight cable to go from you PS2 to your router
 
To answer the OPs other questions...

Yes, you can join your two cables with that hub. Plug it in, and then whack the two cables in. Should manage to do the job for you. Just wastes a bit of mains electric. (i.e. it will get you online tonight... but there is a better answer)

The much cheaper option is a female/female connector as mentioned above. If you have problems locating one, email in trust and I'll sort you out with one for cheapo. :D

I router to a PS2 technically needs a crossover as they are like devices. But as home routers have a switch on them it will be straight through. :p

With that said I often link my PC to my router with a crossover and it works.

a unpowered (passive) hub would be another simple solution, not sure where to get one that is not Cisco and costs a few ££££...

Quite a useless post now I read through it... :(

Eh? Your last statement is the most correct. :D LOL. So here is another one to follow it up.

First... a router to PS2 needs a straight cable. OP's router is all most garenteed to actually be a "router with a built in switch" so one is actually connecting the PS2 to the switch. Hence straight through cable. (i.e. "routers" sold by OCUK are actually combination devices of lots of network items slung into a tiny box)

Second... OP's router will probally not actually care if a straight or crossover cable is used as the majority of built in switches have auto-detect on them and just swap as needed. (takes out lots of troubleshooting problems this way) This is why you can get away with using a crossover to connect PC to router.

Third... a passive hub? Sounds flash... but where is the power gonna come from? Surely something needs to power the lithium crystals captain...

Fourth... can we manage to confuse the OP anymore? Elephants. Thats it. Lets suggest some elephants in here somewhere. Always helps.... and they almost sound like Ethernet.

I love pointless postss.... heheh.... Even worse as now I re-read Trifid's dodgy grammer, I realise he was being truly pedantic... I take my hat off to you as you really were talking about a "router" in your post.... lol.... ;) How am I supposed to out pendant a pedantic post... (or even post in the English language... Out pendant a pendant?)

(More pointless posts to join the thread.... and what type of Trifid are you? You ain't the man eating plant as that has two f's. So are you the nebula, the cipher, or the optics company?)


Darn... where has the OP gone. All ya need is a cheapo plastic doodah and your problems are solved. (Make sure to use to the correct "doodah" term in the shop... or take the handy picture I posted and call it a "one-of-dem". Don't pay more than a couple of quid.)

To just answer my name bit put simply, it is both the 'plant' and the cloud.

The idea came from the book of The Triffids but I didn't like the 2 f's. After putting Trifid into Google it came up with Trifid Nebula which I decided to take for my Xbox Live name.

A passive hub doesn't need power, it doesn't boost the signal either so is limited to the 100m maximum cable length. :p ;)
