Does an SSD effect performance for the likes of xbmc?

Got rid of Acer Veriton in exchange for a decent Compaq Presario cq56(Celeron T3500 dual) laptop, has Intel HD 4500M so odd 1080p files are so so, but 720p seems fine.

However I'm in 2 minds what I want to do, mean ram needs upgrading to satisfaction and could do with reinstalling Windows 7 as seller messed up the allocation space for 320GB drive, but I Don't intend on putting all my movies on it as its 80GB worth, just the odd ones for keeping mobile as I could be in position to buy a nuc or similar or just get a USB external HDD of 1TB at least for all my files..

So I'm thinking maybe trying my hands on an SSD as I could buy a brand new 128GB SanDisk for £60 and either sell or keep my 320GB HDD..

What are peoples thoughts?

Cheers

If you can afford it definitely get an ssd, general usage performance will be night and day. Check out the members market for second hand one, given it's a fairly low spec pc it doesn't make sense spending too much

Okay thanks for that, the ram was only 1gb now I got a 2nd gig stick, think it takes 8.

Im thinking if I go the ssd route I'll have to get an external drive as I got 4 hdds, 200gb sata, 250gb sata, 80gb sata, 40gb ide all bar the 250gb(has my movies) has my data and programmes on, not to the full extent, but when it comes to copy I do the whole c: drive till it tells me windows based stuff can't be moved and so I don't think 128gb ssd will hold it all till I sort it, mean I got to find a way to format the 320gb aswell.

Unless I use my recent purcharse of usb powered ide enclosure and do my 40gb first then use that to slowly transfer things over.

The nuc idea out the window, with its specific ram requirements I'd rather put the whole cost into my laptop and other storage solutions.

Thanks for suggestions, but I've gone totally different root for now.

There's like 12 versions or something of my laptop and don't know how much they differ, but mines ddr2 support and sata/1(same thing isn't it) and all the ssds I saw were sata 2 or above , didn't want 2nd hand models that were suitable and after reading the drive will only perform at like half of its potential due to interface I didn't see it beneficial for the costs...

So brought a WD 500gb hdd and an enclosure at a less price than a 1tb unit so I can get the 320 formatted anyways but also use that hdd as my external as I shouldn't really need bigger than 320 just yet.
