Does anybody use a VPN service?

I think they are kinda pointless, like trusting someone to park your car for you, especially if you use it for acquiring copyrighted material. These providers can still be compelled to hand your details over and there's no such thing as 'no logging'.

They aren't perfect, but since Sky lost its case to resist turning over customer data to Ben Dover Productions and Goldeneye then the landscape has changed significantly. Rights holders now know they can go after end users with impunity and try and bully them into paying for alleged downloads that they may not have any knowledge of. I have a household with a number of users, friends/family visit, I've let my neighbour use the wifi before when he was between installs for a few days, i'd be surprised if any of them were doing anything illegal, but I'd rather choose to take reasonable steps to avoid a civil claim than having to waste time defending it afterwards.

There's a bit of a contradiction in that article. They spend a lot of time suggesting that all providers are logging you whether they admit or not, they give an example of Proxy.sh using Wireshark to identify a troublesome user - problem is, if they were logging as suggested in the article, they wouldn't have to use Wireshark to identify a particular user ... suggesting that there's a lot of FUD in that piece.
