Hearing girls under the age if 12 near by or walking past singing along to sexually explicit songs especially ones by Rihanna?

Does anyone else find this totally wrong or am I being very prudish and it's OK for little gilrs to dress like slappers walking down the street singing along to 'come on rude boy can you get it up?'

You started by mentioning singing along to lyrics then in the next paragraph you're talking about how they're dressing. Two very different subjects in my opinion. You could argue that one drives another.

I used to listen to NWA at a younger age than that and their lyrics are far worse than anything in the main stream today. I turned out alright, if anything I turned out better than those who were sheltered.
Forgot to mention when the lyrics have innuendos they children may not exactly know what they mean however in this day and age they more than likely do.

Yes it is, but as already stated, at that age, one would argue you would perceive the song a little differently.

All down to parenting to be honest.

I find it quite disgusting TBH. There's not enough preservation of childhood innocence these days,. Whilst kids don't necessarily understand what they're listening to/saying, they will certainly find out about things sooner than they perhaps should.

As long as it goes hand in hand with them learning about the 'birds and the bees' then I'm not really that bothered.
I think the important point in all of this is how we (as adults and parents) respond to the sexualisation of children nowadays. It's a fact that they are being sexualised at a younger age and need to appreciate this and tailor our teachings to reflect that. There is no point, and it is foolish, to deny the fact that children are having sex and experimenting and it is up to the adults to teach them the best way of doing that to minimise risk.
Putting our fingers in our ears and pretending it doesn't happen is wrong. As is accepting it happens but do nothing to help because we think it's inappropriate is also wrong.

I do find it disturbing and worrying. However I suppose it's better than if it was the opposite and we had 30 year old men seeing women naked for the first time and having absolutely no idea what to do.

Fair point I did add a little more about dress sense, but her stuff is mainstream, I don't think NWA were mainstream and you were probably teenager? (I'm assuming :) ), I use to and still do listen to alternative stuff from Mystikal to Marilyn Manson (less these days) but I understood the nature of the song.

OK 3.30pm home time for some kids song's just come on the Radio about S and M for the sake of the kids childhood stop this madness

It's all a by-product of the culture of **** music we've allowed to propagate. This wasn't an issue 20 years ago because music wasn't as sexually or violently explicit in the mainstream as it is today. Personally I'm not disgusted by the content of music that is brazenly about sex or violence, I'm just disappointed that such trashy music is so popular. At least have the mental capacity to linguistically disguise it so that it isn't so obvious you're singing about having your pasty smashed. 'Shut up and drive' was more clever about sex than 'Rude boy,' which is wholly unimaginative and mind-numbingly repetitive.

And as for gangster rap. **** me sideways, don't even get me started on the absolute lack of linguistic and musical talent involved in finding three hundred words to rhyme with '*****.' Kids are exposed to this audible detritus because society as a whole has virtually non-existent standards for art these days.

Ooo I'm on a right morale high horse now, have switched off the radio!!!

If not about sex it's about DRINKING and Domestic Violence

What is the world turning too? I'm gonna stick with my Classic FM :D

I will agree with you. However thinking back the girls dressed like that when I was younger just now as I'm older they seem younger if that makes any sense.

You have a point about the main stream and the fact it was main steam. I was around 9/10 when I first heard of NWA. It didn't effect me in any negative way I don't think.

I do see both sides of the fence I really do not talking about the clothing though I was always allowed to listen to what I wanted and watch what I wanted and play what ever games I wanted and I've turned out fine.
