Does anyone else find university hard?

Its because GCSE's and A Levels are dumbed down so its easy to pass, when you goto uni you realise your actually dumb regardless of your 20 a* grades? discuss....

Ah yeah!

Or more likely you realise the people saying A levels were the hardest exams of your life were right. Degree level was a piece of pee afterwards.... Masters on the other hand...:(

Didn't find my undergraduate hard, though with 5% attendance and every piece of work submitted late, along with the university buggering me over, I couldn't really be surprised I missed my 2:1 by a percent...

My postgraduate is harder, but isn't unreasonable. Probably going to miss out on the 1:1, but I'm secure enough with a 2:1.

Is this helpful? Not really, I'm just illustrating that it varies for different people. There are different learning styles for everyone, so don't be afraid to try new things.

I think it's all to do with how you expect your course to be. I found my degree hard, because it wasn't quite what I expected. I still saw it through after the initial surprise. I'm going back to uni this year to do a postgrad and am more prepared this time for what will be expected of me.

I found first year fairly hard, but only because I was used to coasting through school without a care in the world, now I've gotten used to the style of work it's going pretty good! Just takes a bit of self discipline!

Degrees in Geography, sponsored by Crayola.

;)

It genuinely was at times!

40% of the course was advanced excel lessons though which surprised me.

I'm in a decent graduate job with a luxury retailer due to my degree though so it clearly worked!

Extra curricular trips to Amsterdam went down well too... :D

People that say they go drinking every night or whatever and still find the work easy are lying. University isn't meant to be easy.

Best advice I can give if you want a decent grade: treat university like a job. Regardless of lectures, go in the morning and work all day. I wasted so many hours by going home after lectures in the early afternoon, thinking I would study there. It almost never happened. My coursemates often stayed in the faculty until the early evening getting work done and many of them got better grades as a result.

I agree somewhat... 1st year should be when you get the partying done. 2nd and 3rd year calm down and focus a bit.

I had ~20% lecture attendance 1st year, 100% for 2nd and 3rd year but I didn't do any of the extra reading or weekly assigned tasks. I'd go to a lecture then straight home for FIFA. Mainly because I had no motivation to do it and also because I learn better 'cramming' when there's only 1-2 weeks left to do the work.

Depends on each person though definitely

You get classifications like that? Not a simple pass/fail or pass/merit/distinction.

I found it challenging but not impossible, but then i did a Physics degree and put loads of work in. I only got a pass grade but that was mostly to do with that fact i was battling with a crippling chronic decease at the time (ulcerative colitis) for the 2nd and 3rd years otherwise i reckon i would have got a 2:2 at least.

Biology is known for being challenging as well, so don't beat yourself about it, and at least you'll walk away from uni with a real degree rather then yet another pleb with a media studies.

I think it really does depend on the course and the degree. No-one in my physics class found it easy, although some obviously found it easier than others. Hard work made all the difference.

Having said that, I did a couple of finance courses while at university and found them incredibly easy in comparison. It was mostly basic arithmetic and even that confused the hell out of the management students.

Depends entirely on the course and university I found electrical and electronic engineering at the University of Nottingham hard to the point of pain but computer studies at derby uni a piece of cake. If you are at a real uni studying a real subject expect it to be a lot harder than a joke course at a second rate institute!

I will be going in September to do mechanical engineering. I imagine I will be crying myself to sleep after a week :D

You'll think years 1st and 2nd years are hard at the time you are doing them, wait until 3rd year and then you really will be crying.
