Does anyone else have great difficulty choosing a film to watch?

I like to watch a film every night before bed but most of the time it ends up taking me a good 30+ minutes of browsing IMDb and reading reviews just to even choose one. Sometimes I give up entirely, like tonight. I wouldn't say I'm overly fussy when it comes to genres, but I do primarily prefer films that can be deep and require you to think. My favourites include:

Memento
Inception
American Beauty
American Psycho
Donnie Darko
Vanilla Sky
The Game
Interstellar
Fight Club
Twelve Monkeys

I've pretty much exhausted that list of films though, and now struggling to find anything similar. Any clues? The last few weeks I've been watching a lot of Iraq/Afghanistan war films, but I can't find anymore of those either. Now I'm just completely stuck on what to watch next. Even went through the Harry Potters again because I was getting bored of searching. :o

My housemates can stick absolutely anything on, even if it's a bog standard Adam Sandler 'comedy' that they've seen 5 times in the past month, and they'd be fine with it. I'll be sitting there bored out of my mind because I can't stand what the average person seems to watch. I need something interesting and mind boggling!

I only tend to have an issue when there is nothing on I want to watch which has been quite often recently. I tend to watch more in the way of TV series these days and often back to back. The last film I saw was the Star Wars remake/reboot which was OKish.

This last Lonely Place,
The Prestige,
Prisoners,
There will be Blood,
Sucker Punch,
The Revenant,
The Martian,
The Illusionist,
Sicario, (even though I personally hated this movie)
Room,
No Country for Old Men,
Harry Brown,
mavity,
Gangs Of New York,
Bridge Of Spies,
12 Years A Slave,
Apocalypto,
Gran Torino,
The Departed,
We Were Soldiers,

That's a few movies that I think you might like, should keep you going until the 25th of May ;) You probably seen most of them already though.

I also watch films every night and struggle, spend more time choosing than watching some times! A brain dead action film normally cheers me up.

Same here, I struggle to know what film to choose. Often I watch an old favourite if I'm stuck.

Probably why I mostly stick to series now as I'd also waste 1/2 hour just flicking through DVD's or online - plus I have so little time to watch a film that I'd rather know there is a good chance of me liking it rather than wasting 2+ hours on rubbish.

I wish I had time to watch a film every night! I'm terrible at actually sitting down to watch something. Weeknights for example I might aim to watch one after dinner, then it hits 9pm and the films is over 2hrs long and I'm like 'screw that, I don't want a late night' so I don't bother :p

I have a list as long as my arm of films to watch, it's persuading the girlfriend to watch them that's the problem!

My watch list on IMDb is currently 251, and I don't even feel like I add that many! And I watch a lot of films :p

Right, these are the ones posted that I haven't seen. Will add to a watch list. :) Thanks all.

Police Academy Series... close thread!

:D

Been a good ten years since I last saw them tbh!

I find this thread very useful https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18049585

:p

You mention Afghan/Iraq films, have you seen Kajaki?

I watched that a few nights ago actually. Shocking stuff!

I can't stand most films as it's just crap like Expendables or Jason Statham action movie #531.

A few not mentioned here.

The Boy in Stripped Pajamas
Curious case of Benjamin Button.
