Does anyone else not get on with memory foam mattresses?

I bought my first memory foam mattress a couple of years ago and have never found it comfy. When I first got it I figured I'd get used to it but over the last little while I've found I wake up with back pain like my spine has been twisted like spaghetti. It seems once its warmed up it just goes too soft. It is a mattress from Amazon that had great reviews although how many of them are real who knows.

Anyway I've had enough of it now. Looking at getting another mattress but not sure whether to go for good old springs or give memory foam a go again.

Had one. Hated it for pretty much all the reasons you mentioned!

Now have a spring mattress with a layer of mem foam ontop so you get the best of
Both worlds

I have a sprung one with a memory foam top layer and it doesn't seem any different to my previous basic mattress - definitely not seeing any benefit from it.

Mines much more comfortable than any previous mattresses and i get the “hold you in place” effect of a pure foam mattress but wih the support of a proper spring one underneath.

As always with mattresses tho you get what you pay for

Pocket sprung with Latex (both sides so the mattress can still be turned regularly) wins for me. Latex is cooler and less 'huggy' than memory foam.

Memory foam mattresses are unsuitable for anyone with any form of back complaint. Pop into a mattress shop an try out an orthopaedic mattress.

Personally use a Rest Assured Ortho and I highly recommend it.

You don't have to spend much time poking about on Google to know this about memory foam mattresses, nothing new...

Can't stand them, or any other sort of 'hugging' mattress. Spring only here, I sleep very hot so anything foam is like sleeping in a bin bag to me, plus I prefer a firm mattress where you don't sink in.

My sister has an Eve and my parents a Leesa... but I haven't been enamoured when I've laid on them. I also over-heat in bed easily so I don't think memory foam is for me.

Latex on the other hand...

I've always had mild back pain, especially noticeable going to bed/waking up, but never any real back "problems". And always had old, used mattresses really. But I got a cheap-ish, but proper branded-from-a-shop memory foam mattress in 2015 and it made a big difference.

I did read up for bloody weeks first and even tried it out (housemate had the same mattress). I got a pretty firm one, people often comment on how the bed just kind of sits under you and doesn't give.

The only memory foam characteristic I notice is that it reshapes over a sleep session, getting bumpy and uneven, so I've trained myself to sleep much more still.

I'm on the fence about whether I'd buy one again, but I certainly sleep better now than I did on all the mattresses in rented houses I've had for a decade. It was like a revelation waking up without backache.

I bought a Casper and sometimes I have a great nights sleep other times I wake up and I have to wiggle around to get my back 'in order' before I can even lift myself out of bed. Not quite sure what to make of it. Don't know if its my crippled back or the mattress. :(

I went for one of those spring memory foam/latex kinda hybrid mattresses and find it very comfortable. Not to hot and has a bit of firmness and spring.

Never had a decent night's sleep on a memory foam mattress. Sub-optimal for sexytimes too ime

I've got a cheap one and I'm not a huge fan of it. I spend the majority of my nights in hotels, so I'm used to a decent bed really.
