Does anyone else think GOW is quite awful?

I really quite enjoyed it when it came out. The single player campaign was a series of staged set peice battles, many very memorable, and multiplayer was a blast as everyone here was playing and it offered something quite new to the console space.

I can understand people saying in hindsight it wasn't as good as people felt at the time but I've never understood the extreme polarity that the better something is received the stronger the hatred needs to be when it doesn't quite live up to your own personal standards. When a games average almost everyone can agree it's average but when a games 'great' it seems to have to be 'great' or 'awful; and what ever peoples problems with GoW are it's clearly not that bad.

Well, single player became boring after first completion which didn't take very long tbh.

However multiplayer had me addicted for a few months, which is what counts. There was nearly always good team communication and more of a sense of teamwork than a lot of fps's, which I enjoyed. I think I played it online probably longer than I did cod4.

I didn't like the teamwork aspect of GoW multiplayer as you invariably stumbled into a game where 2 or 3 people knew each other and you felt like the leper. I much prefer every man for himself.

Although the story is non-existant and far to short (especially for CO-OP) the graphics were and still are very good and more importantly the game was solid to play for the most part. That was then, now it's a fairly average game as most of the things that defined Gears as very good have been either done better or offer a better gaming experience overall.

I'm sure Gears 2 will be good (certainly looks it), only real concern is whether their is more than it being slightly better looking?

I loved Gears of War.

I loved playing it even more on split screen co-op with a few beers!

Awesome game in my mind, but again I agree that its too short.
