Does anyone else think open-world maps are now too big?

Well there's a trophy called Hit the Trail to get from Blackwater to Escalera before sunset, doesn't take too long to do maybe about 10 minutes and it's not such a bad ride if you can appreciate the game's scenery.

think a lot of it depends on what your riding too, try it on a donkey and it would take twice as long maybe even longer.

That would be interesting, have a group ride the El Señor and see how many get to the other end without changing mount.

I loved how on San Andreas I could go off in the woods.....but I flipping hated the 'Sims' like attributes. I would be on the other side of the city tomy girlfriend and the gym and it starts complaining that your girlfriend wants to see you and your muscle mass is going.

Witcher 2 was good but it was too linear to really make you feel a part of the world. Witcher 3 ie Skyrim type world in the Witcher mythos should be great.

It really was only linear in one sense. In other ways it was incredibly non-linear. It had by far the most deep sophisticated 'branching' of any RPG I've played. You could make minor, major & medium optional choices in almost every aspect of the game. And somehow they would all tie into a believable whole. It made for a smallish but incredibly densely packed game with loads of replayability.
I do fear an open world focus will just serve to spread that genius thinner but we'll wait & see.
Loved Stalker series & that was very open world (Though big, rather than huge).

Nobody mentioned just cause 2? Pretty epic sized map with nice visuals. However AI felt a bit robotic. Nothing wrong with big if it's filled. Guild wars 2 being another example.

Imo Just Cause 2 felt very copy+paste, just wasn't enough variety to many of the different bases

I find most maps in games just the right size usually. Only game I found where the map was too big was a racing game called Fuel but that was a sub par game anyway.
