Does anyone have a favourite airport?

Narita, Tokyo.
10 mins away from a nice town to stay prior to departure, clean, fairly quiet (well, used to be before the covid backlog of tourists), half-decent restaurants, those fancy spraying toilets, smoking areas if you're into that.
Even has showers, I had one last time I was there as I had a hangover from the Jet Lag Club bar the night before and spent the morning sweating lol, it was great.

And to add a new one, Southend. Small airport which was doing really well before Covid hit and starting to gain traction again.
Benefited from a strong rail link as a result of the 2012 Olympics. Something that other "regional" airports can fall foul of i.e Liverpool/Bristol et al. with Bus links/taxi/self drive being only option

Interesting question. I've flown into both airports in Hong Kong so on those two, Kai Tak always holds a spot in my heart just for its nailbiting approach, and the new airport for its giant expanse, clean wavy lines and the abundace of moving walkways :D

Perhaps because its my town and some inner Bri'ish patriotism kicking in, but Heathrow always seemingly gives me a smile every time I fly out or in. T5 is a nice terminal that i've never had any issues in same with T2. Yes old T1 and T2 were a tip, and T3 is showing its age, but its a good age

Controversial opinion - JFK is a sty... especially T7!

Just realise that this weekend I would be departing from Heathrow Terminal 4...that means I have been to all 5 Terminals.

Southampton. I can get there in 20 mins and usually only need to turn up an hour or so before. Evidently sparse facilities but not an issue for a short haul flight.

In the UK any that is not Gatwick, LHR is fast becoming a similar experienc.

I’m so fed up with the airport experience my next holiday abroad will be a cruise from Southampton

Living in Manchester and actively try and avoid Manchester Airport. Staff are rude as hell and from entering the airport to getting on the plane, you are treated like, Cattle, FBI's most wanted and a money heist all in one.

If we can, always try and get a flight from Liverpool. Ok maybe not as many shops etc but no problem. Staff are friendly, you get treated with respect and like a human being, all in all, a pretty stress free experience from our previous journeys.

I've always liked Belfast City Airport - can be off the plane and in a taxi into the City in about 5 mins if you walk quick enough!
A bit like London City there's not much there but its a fairly quick and efficient place to get in or out of.

Had to fly to Belfast Int once and it was eye wateringly expensive for a taxi!

I mean, practically speaking, Bristol. I can get there in 15 minutes by bus and it has some good links to a lot of Europe at prices that are definitely killing the planet. Never had any real issues with security etc. Only stinger is £7.50 a pint!

Particularly on the return home with cabin baggage only I've been on the plane and at home 30 minutes later.

Otherwise, Abu Dhabi. Showered in the lounge, probably one of the best showers I've ever had. Opted out of a massage but everything is 5*.

Liverpool or Nottingham East Midlands are my go to airports to depart from when heading to a European destination. Both are always nice and quiet, never too much of a queue to get through security and you dont have to complete a marathon distance when walking from the lounge area to the gates.

That’s becuase they are not big airports.
Try Schiphol even Istanbul!

This reminds me of the Douglas Adams quote in the book, the Long Dark Teatime of the soul.

“It can hardly be a coincidence that no language on Earth has ever produced the expression "as pretty as an airport". Airports are ugly. Some are very ugly. Some attain a degree of ugliness that can only be the result of a special effort. This ugliness arises because airports are full of people who are tired, cross, and have just discovered that their luggage has landed in Murmansk (...) and the architects have on the whole tried to reflect this in their designs.

They have sought to highlight the tiredness and crossness motif with brutal shapes and nerve jangling colours, to make effortless the business of separating the traveller from his or her luggage or loved ones, to confuse the traveller with arrows that appear to point at the windows, distant tie racks, or the current position of the Ursa Minor in the night sky, and wherever possible to expose the plumbing on the grounds that it is functional, and conceal the location of the departure gates, presumably on the grounds that they are not".”
