Does anyone have a hard time completing single player games?

As per thread title,

Pretty much every SP game I've bought they're unfinished. I'll most likely get half way through or more then somehow I just lose interest :\

For example, I've had HL2 since day of release and I still haven't completed it, I've been addicted to CS:S ever since. I feel that I just prefer online games by a far mile.

I absolutely loved COH and 3/4 through it until I reformated last year haven't got round to starting again. Same with Medieval II, Hitman BM, NFS:MW, Doom 3 etc.

The only 2 recent games that I've completed and enjoyed are Fahrenheit and FarCry.

Is anyone else like me or am I alone on this one?

IM like this as well, just cant stay on the game and would rather play on bf2 or something else.

I don't buy many games, but if they're singleplayer I normally complete them. I do get bored with some games tho and stop half way thru, possibly returning when/if they have patched the bugs. (eg - NWN2)

Most games which I enjoy I will play to the end tho :)

I played HL2 to the end without stopping :D

I guess the most recent game I stopped part way thru was Quake4, but that was really due to it being rubbish :(

OP, i have exactly this problem never completed one to date and much rather play 2142 tbh

but im determined to complete bioshock as its got me totally hooked :D

im near the end i think anyway so shouldnt be long

I did for a five year period between late 1998 and late 2003 (i.e. while I was at uni and a couple of years after). During that time I only completed 7 games.

However I then made a concerted effort to put more time into SP gaming and have completed over 60 titles since then. Note this means storyline/'main game' completed, not 100% complete in terms of all items collected, all gold medals or whatever.

On a related note I would say that it does tend to take me longer to complete games than the kind of figures I see quoted here. For example people say HL2:Ep1 takes 3-4hours, was more like 6hrs+ for me. Max Payne 2 is allegedly 8-10 hours but it took me 2 weeks. I tend to like to explore a lot more, read posters, listen to conversations, run back half a mile to collect a healthpack/ammo I didn't pickup at the time etc.

Oh another 'interesting' fact - of those 60 games I've completed in the last 4 years, at least 20 of them were over a year old when I played them (and many at least 2 years old). I don't just stick to whatever is the latest and greatest on the hype wagon, for instance I haven't played STALKER or Bioshock yet. I quite like waiting for games to fall in price so I can play them with the final patch and more modern hardware.

I usually complete all games I purchase as I only get games I know I'm going to play through. There's been a few exceptions such as Vampire blood lines as I just got bored with it, it wasn't like another multiplayer game was pulling me in.

Yep

I played UO single player for about 3 days and got bored

Played MP for a year, went back to SP and completed it rather quickly

Cod2 however i havn't even gone back to it, nothing compared to cod1

I'm exactly the same way, I see little challenge and get even less enjoyment from SP in games and would much prefer to go straight online with them. I think the last SP game I actually played through was HL2 - none since then.

I think I buck the trend somewhat as the most modern game I've played multiplayer for more than a few days is UT2003. Quakeworld has spoiled me to such an extent that I just can't get involved in other games without getting frustrated at the slower pace, inferior interfaces and so forth.

Single play just seems a little boring .. just bigger monsters or more complex puzzles.

Despite the best will of the designers you're just playing in a virtual movie where you have to complete tasks in an order.

Multiplayer is far more random.

Quake 4 is a boring game ... mulitplayer it's a laugh because it's just you vs others - no script

I have this problem too....a lot. Games rarely drag me in enough to want to play them every spare minute I have until I complete them. Only Half-Life (1) and Deus Ex have made me like that. I think part of the problem is that there are so many games out these days that it is so easy to turn one off and start another.

I mean for god sake I currently have STALKER, Bioshock, DOOM 3, Quake 4, FEAR (and Extraction Point) and SWAT4 installed and ready to play :) How many of them have I completed? None. How many of them have I even started playing for more than 30 minutes? SWAT 4 and DOOM 3 are the only ones and I've had them since release.

<P>I aint played and completed any single player games since HL2 or Doom3...i think after that..it all went downhill. There has never been anything new to realy make me want to play...Now Online FPS is wher its at!</P>

The thing is i was a diehard multiplayer zealot.
But lately it seems over saturated with squeaky voiced little
kids that have superhuman reaction times, scripts cheats infinite knowledge
of exact build orders for rts's.

And disconnecter's laggers that ruin the game experience.
Just isn't the quality of fellow online gamers out there these days
too many kids have internet and spoil it for everyone.

It's getting to the point of, unless you sit there all day everyday
playing these games you just won't be competitive online,
which you kind of semi need to be or it's not really a fun experience.

I do think playing single player in genres such as rts is very helpful
training for online.
Only game i still enjoy online now is pes6 but even that has it's
bad eggs.
I have hardly played c&c 3 online as everyone just uses
scrin and or rushes.
It's a win at all costs mentality and everyone does the exact same tactics
uses the same moves and so on to achieve the win.
That's why it's getting dull.

Hey if Bioshock doesn't engage you then i put it to you
that you are spending too much time on the pc this is why
you have little time for single player too much of anything
gets boring.
I think you will find you'll travel full circle and come to a point one day
when you just get bored of the online gaming and fancy a single player
game.
Supreme commander vs AI is superb to play on your own
far more fun than playing cs source and never knowing who is stealth wallhacking.

Nah I normally can finish games if I start them. I won't complete them first go however, I'll play them and then get bored, find another one, get bored and go back and so on and so on.

I'm actually on the PC for very little time every week now due to real life commitments but it's strange because I want to play these games yet I find myself browsing the net or listening to mp3's instead when I do get the odd hour or two. I haven't got into Bioshock yet because I've only had time for a 5 minute go with it :)

That's called getting older and wiser :p

sometimes i just don't want to be pwnzored or what ever the hell it is
and fire up a single player game or watch top gear on vlc.

I find that the more a game sucked me in while I was playing it, the harder it is for me to start it up again if I'm forced to not play for a few days (due to work, being away from home, having to reinstall for whatever reason, etc.). The deeper and more engaging the plot, the harder it is to get back into it.
