Does anyone have a hard time completing single player games?

I think over the years we have been spoilt with the on-line elements that are packaged with games nowadays.
Going back to when i owned consoles i.e Megadrive, PS One, i found that whatever game i bought i'd always finish. In recent years with the PC having the features of compeating with other people over the net, especially that most of us have a competitive streak lying about somewhere in us which means that single player is not where my entertainment lies anymore.
That's probably the case for a lot of people. Although Bioshock seems to have an enourmous hype about it, their even talking about it in the place where i work at. (I usually bore them to death talking about games);
Bioshock is a definite finisher for me, if only because of the hype and the fact even non hardcore gamers are talking about it:D

i have the same problem, the last game i finished properly was c&c3 on pc and before that it was resident evil 4 on gamecube when it was released in the US, thats how bad i am!

if i am hooked by the game, i will finish it, eventually. took me over a year to sit down properly and finish HL2!

i think the choice has spoilt me tbh. that and when i was a kid, buying a game was a pretty big thing because of the money side of it, now i just dont see it as a big expense anymore as i have a job.

I get this problem with a lot of games aswell. Never completely HL, HL2, Unreal or Farcry.
Usually get a fair bit into them, then spend 5 minutes playing FEAR and then end up running through and completing FEAR again!

I find that the more a game sucked me in while I was playing it, the harder it is for me to start it up again if I'm forced to not play for a few days (due to work, being away from home, having to reinstall for whatever reason, etc.). The deeper and more engaging the plot, the harder it is to get back into it.

I find aswell, i will go mad on a game and play it almost all my free time until i finish it but if i stop for any reason like to reinstall windows or the like i find it hard to get back into it bioshock and coh i finsihed those two games but i got so many unfinished.
I played EQ for almost 7 years and that was a time sink.

Just the same as me. Id rather play multiplayer games or games like flatout 2 where you can do a few races, go back to it and its still good.

At the moment im playing star wars pod racer and ive almost completed it. If i do i think itll be my first game ive completed!

(edit, are no, i completed soldier of fortune 2, kingpin and medal of hounour )

when i had no internet in first year of uni i raked all my old discs out and tried to complete a lot of the single players, was quite good really, a lot kept me v entertained.
When iv got the internet though i just wont really play them.. i like the unpredictability of online games, although im somewhat disheartened with online gaming at the moment, the only game im playing is DOTA =/
ill probably get back to single players or maybes even co-ops when im back at uni.. or maybe i should actually just do my work

I'm like this aswell, in recent years the one games I've finished are HL2 and Condemned!

I've owned most of the big titles on the 360 too and just cannot be bothered to complete them, such as Hitman, GRAW, Oblivion, Cod3, Lost Planet, Splinter Cell DA.

BioShock is the first game in a long time that has made me want to battle through it and wring the last drip of gameplay out of it.

i only managed hl2, far cry, wc3+tft, q4.
Helps if a story is REALLY enthrauling, and if its not too difficult to get back into.
WC3 is probably the best story telling in a game iv ever played.
I tried to give strategys more of a chance after completing it, but none are really anywhere near as good, and im v impatient so sometimes they are too fiddly :D
Tried starcraft but its just too ugly nowadays

Out of the games i own, i've completed:

Far Cry
Aliens vs predator (only as a marine though, other modes weren't as action packed)
HL2 (reluctantly felt i had to finish it)
Pariah (meh)
Dark Messiah (couldn't stop playing it)
Company of heroes (again, would play till 3-4am and start again after 4-5 hours sleep)
quake 4
need for speed (most wanted and carbon)

Games i havn't completed and have ultimately gotten bored of:

C&C Tiberian Sun
C&C Renegade
Global Operations
Heavy Gear 2 (don't even know where that came from )
Earth 2150
Earth 2160
IGI 2
Soldier of fortune 2
Unreal tournament 2004 (played the multiplayer but not single)
Area 51
Die Hard: Nakatomi Plaza
Chrome
Brothers in arms (crap tbh)
Oblivion
Supreme Commander (just havn't had time)
Bioshock (got boring and repetitive)

Theres been more games in between that i havn't completed and ended up selling, so i'd say that like most people it takes something i really like before i'll finish it.

to answer the question - ...I won't do when Crysis comes out!

how do you know that? I bet ill be bored after playing through the nice realistic jungle part. Personally i feel itll go all crappy like half life did in the second part of the game, about the time i stop playing and go onto multiplayer

I think the most enjoyable recent games I completed are:

Half-Life 2
Prince Of Persia - Sands Of Time
Prince Of Persia - Warrior Within
Warhammer 40K: Dawn Of War
Warhammer 40K: Dawn Of War - Winter Assault
Warhammer 40K: Dawn Of War - Dark Crusade
Darwinia

Another game which might aswell have been singleplayer, but was part multiplayer which I enjoyed completing was TDU :) altho once I had completed it and went to move onto multiplayer I just got bored and annoyed :(

I mainly play multiplayer games and have done for 12years, I find a lot of singleplayer games boring which is why I don't buy many. But some are so interesting/funny/different that it's worth playing to the end :)

I never thought I'd get into Prince Of Persia, but I played both to the end as they were so different. I loved the way Warrior Within was so dark aswell.
I also never thought I'd get into a RTS as the only RTS games I've ever been interested in were warcraft & starcraft and even then I got bored of them before completing them (WC3 was/is amazing tho) :( WH40K: DoW was just so interesting with a lot of humour thrown in.

ah yea, forgot about DoW, i didnt bother with dark crusade after the tedious mess that was winter assault though. The levels were just too big for me, got annoying.. Would have prefered the FMVs and story telling inbetween levels split up a bit more.

I rarely complete games.

I'm about a third way through HL2, half way through Quake4, half way through Doom3. Only completed HL1 cause I got half way then cheated with the God mode on.

Determined not to cheat on these though.

Downloaded the demo for Bioshock a couple of days ago but haven't even got round to starting it yet.

I just don't get the time to play, too many other things to do, with the result I never get the chance to build up the skills or remember how to tackle the game. No matter how far through I get it's like starting over as a newb (even have to check key bindings a lot of the time cause I've forgotten them) so it just takes forever....

Kinda like games like GrandPrix4 and Quake3 etc, where you can just dip in for five mins now and again and it doesn't make much difference.

Of the 10-15 single payer games I have played ever, I think C&C2 is the one I haven't finised due to being too hard. CAn't remember about UT2003 - I'm sure I made the last level. Otherwise I have completed AoE2 + exp, AoE3 + exp, Deus Ex, Deus Ex: IW, commandos 3(?)(hard!!!!), Project IGI (hard!!!!), Desperados, Delta Force 2, Spellforce, UT, NFSU, NFSU2, HL2, XIII.

I am a bit obsessed about completing games. I did using walthroughs, but not cheats, for some of the later parts of a few games.

Only games I've completed are:
HL2
Far Cry
Diablo II + I immediately went out and bought then completed the LoD expansion :D

Actually I've completed DII with many of the characters.. so does that count as multiple completions? Fantastic game imho :D
