I think over the years we have been spoilt with the on-line elements that are packaged with games nowadays.
Going back to when i owned consoles i.e Megadrive, PS One, i found that whatever game i bought i'd always finish. In recent years with the PC having the features of compeating with other people over the net, especially that most of us have a competitive streak lying about somewhere in us which means that single player is not where my entertainment lies anymore.
That's probably the case for a lot of people. Although Bioshock seems to have an enourmous hype about it, their even talking about it in the place where i work at. (I usually bore them to death talking about games);
Bioshock is a definite finisher for me, if only because of the hype and the fact even non hardcore gamers are talking about it
