does anyone here have an E2180 with an X1900 / X1950 ?

what is your current cpu and what speed is it running at?
what motherboard do you have?
what is your pc used for
we could probaly tell you i you would see a performance increase on not and most importantly if a e2180 will work in your motherboard

I have an E2160 an an X1950 Pro, around 5k in 3dmark06, 200fps on CSS on ultra high, CoD4 on Ultra High, Crysis on medium etc.

Im a little bit confused, are you hoping that the 2180 will allow you to clock a little bit higher? I would think its your graphics card that limiting you, not the 3ghz core 2 duo you have :)

LOL ignore, I got totally mixed up there, thought the poster above was the OP, what cpu do you have OP?

hi all, sorry for the late reply, works been busy today. basically i am on a 939 AMD opteron 170 @ 2.9Ghz, X1900XT and 2 gig of DDR PC3200 XMS at present and i want to see if there will be enough of a performance increase to justify me changing my rig out. This change would only cost me £50 once ive sold my own kit and keep me going for the next 8 months until AM3 & phenom are fully established and a bit more reasonably priced.

to do this, i need benchies from people with similar specs to what i am looking at upgrading to, i can then bench using the same software and compare the results from my own system.

another added advantage is i have water cooling so i can push the 2180 quite high, i.e. 3.5Ghz +

the x1950pro won't be any faster than the 1900xt.. well, nothing noticeable.

I went from a 2.4 opty to a 3.2 e2180, and the difference is incredible.. Obviously, you're starting with a higher clocked opty, but for the price of the upgrade, it's well worth it.

An x1900 xt is about 15% faster than a x1950 pro, well from my findings it is. :)

is that all? (is that stock settings or overclocked?)
seems a little low to me, being as my sig gets just under 4.5K
im hopeing to be getting an E2180 this week but overclocking it hopefully to 3.2

I'll be building a rig consisting of the following, E2160, P5E, Ocz 6400 Ram, and a x1950 xtx running in crossfire.

I'll bench it in single mode and then in crossfire and let you know what my findings are, I'll probably use 3dmark06,05 and aquamark.

The E2160 will be overclocked to around 3ghz if it goes that far.

if so, can you run some bench marks for me and post them here as i want to compare performance to my current CPU to see if its worth me up grading. thanks.

I dont' think CS:S is really that taxing on system and isn't it based on the half-life 2 engine and it's really playable on most systems, that may be why there isn't much difference.

I'd be happier compairing a games like Stalker or Crysis, as if your getting over 100fps in a older games its not worth compairing.

i was going to upgrade too but i dont think its worth it tbh unless you get it running at 3.5ghz as i got a mate to run some cs:s timdemo's and his results were more or less identicle to mine and he has a e6850 @ stock.

heres my 3dmark06 too http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=3547307

a super pi 1M result and some avi to DVD encoding results would be useful too if you dont mind? :)

I used to get ~16fps encoding to x264, I now get ~42.

Totally useless without knowing the settings, I know, but upgrading from the opty to a e2180 @ 3.2 basically more than doubled my encoding speed.

In answer to your prev question, I have a Gigabyte P31-S3L - I upgraded on the cheap, but I'm ultra chuffed with the performance/cost :)

I built my rig up last night quickly,

E2160 @ 3150mhz stock cooler @1.295v
Asus P5E
X1950 Xtx's in Crossfire
OCZ 6400C4 xtc Ram

In 3dmark06 i was getting about 7000marks in single mode,
Cards set at overdrive max so 695/1098
In Crossfire about 12000marks.

Further tweaking will be done but so far the rig is pretty good I'd say.

I need to tweak/configure the processer and the memory properly.
And get to grips with the best drivers for my X1950 xtx's as I'm using Cat 7.11 and i think the best is probably 7.8 or 7.9 as my old rig prefered these over the newer driver.

afraid its not the graphics power im interested in as such, its how much punch the cpu has.

i play supreme commander and that games all about the CPU power, graphics power is secondary. i also do lots of encoding too :)
