Does anyone here use these "to good to be true" websites that sell cheap game keys?

You don't even have an argument. You're likely just a contrarian.

you’re likely someone that downloads illegal torrents to get things for free because you haven’t given an argument to show otherwise

anyone can follow up my earlier post with “you’re / you” and imply multiple things that you have, but add nothing from your own view to reinforce your point other than “yes it is”

Yes, it's why I have a subscription to HBO Max, Netflix, Amazon, Disney+, Spotify, Origin Acess premier, Humble Bundle Choice, with over 600 games in my Steam Collection, 100 games in my Epic games library and about 30 games in my Origin library, 60 games in my Switch library with about 40 off the e-Shop, 20 hard copies and countless other games across my Playstation and Xbox libraries.

Yes.

You made more effort to respond to my **** post than than the topic of discussion. Your lack of contribution to reinforce your viewpoint shows how childish you really are.

G2A and CDKeys, never had a problem with either. CDKeys usually seems to be the cheapest in my experience. We get ripped off in this country for pretty much everything so if I can get game keys (with no resale opportunity I might add) a lot cheaper than the quite frankly absolutely ridiculous £50 asking price of some games then I'm damn well going to do it.

Yeah with consoles game prices slowly crept up and PC game prices were tied in. Also the introduction of premium, deluxe, limited, etc. Happy to hunt for cheaper keys from other regions.

I just bought the old cinemaware amiga classic Wings re-mastered for pc on cd keys. It cost me £2.59 Steam was asking £12.99 need i say more.

I have used G2A and kinguin in the past but stopped due to all the bad press they were getting in regards to stolen keys/credit cards, if the keys were purchased with a stolen credit card it's actually worse for the developer than pirating as it costs them money in chargeback fees. Now I just wait for sales on reputable websites.

Used G2A once or twice, then saw they were charging people like someone mentioned in this thread for inactivity not used ever since. Used CD keys a few times and never an issue.

Hadn't heard anything about this, and don't use my G2A account very often (maybe once a year?) so curious if I had got a charge. Just looked it up and it's the G2A Pay account that takes €1 a month off your balance if you don't log in for 6 months. I've never owned a G2A Pay account (just used PayPal on the G2A site) so doesn't affect me. :D

These sites are markets like Amazon so they are open to abuse from sellers. I've sold several keys from hardware deals and I liked the delayed payment system on Kinguin for example. The keys can be verified by a buyer and any issues raised before the seller buggers off.

Kinguin have also refunded me for a broken key even when I haven't paid the extra insurance fee for this.

The logic in this is serious. You think you get charged for inactivity so you stop using it :D

It's the G2A pay account that gets charged if you don't use it. Similar to lots of payment services, Skrill etc.

It's amazing what people get behind on the internet when the read half the information somewhere.

I don't even think you need an account to buy a game on G2A.

Not really sure how they sell them so cheap, and only bought a couple but they seem to work.

Seems odd publishers allow it. Like paying commission to trainline. We still need to catch the train!!!

I use CDkeys quite often, only ever had one problem when I bought a code for Bomber Crew at £4.50, I recieved an email to say it was not available. They followed this up with a key that worked plus £5 credit.

Never use the grey market sites and never will. Just wait until the games are being (practically) given away on the various legit (official reseller) platforms.

Not sure that helps the developers very much, but at least it's 100% compliant with their T&Cs :p

I'm fairly sure they'd rather you bought a Day1 Russian key for £20 (UK price £49) than wait three years and buy it on Steam (etc) for £5 :p

So I have mixed feelings, really. The devs all seem to hate the grey market sellers. That's fine with me. I'm never short of something to play, even if I'm three years behind what the cool kids are playing :p

Out of curiosity, @.Lethal what do you think of my strategy? Is it also immoral? I'm getting my games for peanuts, and barely contributing to the devs coffers. I could afford to pay more, but frankly half the games just sit in my Library anyhow, so I really don't care to pay any more for them.

Waiting some time to purchase games from genuine sellers at a fraction of the original RRP is good sense IMO. Game prices drop so fast in just a few months these days.

To be clear though, I don't have any issue how people purchase their games and understand why people purchase from grey market resellers when their often much cheaper.

Yeah and I think we're probably on a similar page.

But I have been thinking, what would the devs actually prefer? To buy a grey-market key on day 1 for £20 (let's stick to the "more reputable" sellers like CDKeys), or for everybody to wait 3 years and buy from Steam for £5 a copy?

Obviously it's not "all or nothing", and probably they view my £5 as bonus income rather than make-or-break income from the first 12 months.

I think perhaps there is some nuance here. Quite likely a certain % who buy from CDKeys would have torrented if CDKeys didn't exist. Or they would have waited (like me) for a super-discount deal years later.

Perhaps when judging morality the only thing that really matters is the impact on the devs finances.

It's hard for any of us to know which contributes more to the devs coffers - with places like CDKeys existing, or without?

It's an interesting question, and I'm not sure there's a simple answer.

Bought a few games back in the day from G2A, think thats where I originally got CSGO. But after the bad press of stolen cards etc and people having keys revoked I stopped.

I have used fanatical a fair few and cdkeys.

:p I may have also used cdkeys and a VPN for cheap Brazilian game pass codes
