Evening everyone.

Now that I've started College, I've decided to get a part-time job - probably working Saturday/Sunday and maybe a week-day or two after College. The reason that I've chosen Waitrose is that there is a branch very nearby, and I've heard good things about them. I'll be handing my CV in shortly, but was just wondering whether anyone here works/worked at Waitrose? A few questions...

What's it like working there? Working conditions, rules etc.

Any idea on wages? I'm hoping for £6.00p/h+.

Anything else I should know?

I know OcUK will provide all the answers as usual...:p

Alex.

I worked at Waitrose in Richmond many years ago. I really enjoyed my time there. Through memory, they tend to pay a little more than the other major supermarkets and they certainly treated me pretty well.

I worked behind the Deli counter.

Sounds good to me!

Anyone else have anything to say?

worked for waitrose when i was 16 for a while and my mum worked for them for 25 years before taking voluntary redundancy when they closed the local branch. I have to say that they are absolutely class employers compared to equivalent supermarket etc jobs.

I have worked at waitrose now for 2years six months started when i was 16 (2years part time) and been full time for 6 months now trained on everything but only full time for another 9 months then off too Uni and will be transferring to another waitrose - already discussed so thats me financially sorted through out uni thanks too Waitrose! I really like the branch i work in and its all friendly social is all good too. but depends what section you are on i personally think i have the best section manager in the whole store and he is pretty cool! but thats a branch here in surrey... Benefits are excellent such as the bonus!

All sounds good so far, thanks a lot everyone. ;)

Does anyone have a rough idea on wages?

if no one gets back to you soon i've messengered a mate who still works there asking him but it might be a while before he comes online.

If they still have the same bonus scheme in place that again is pretty sweet for a supermarket job though.

Thanks a lot mate, I really appreciate that. :)

The bonus scheme does indeed sound good, especially considering it's part time work. :D

i used to work there, well he branch in Cambridge. i dont mean to boast but i was on fruit and veg, which was had the 3rd most profit out of the entire john lewis split in to sections. forgot where first and second was:p.

anyways, by the end i was paid 6 05 i think, and on sundays you get payed 1.5times more, so working sundays gets me 9 pounds ish an hour, on top of that, if i book a holliday on a sunday, and do overtime over when im working i get paid double, so i got paid 18 Pounds an hour :), did this several times, and ahh was it good.

anyways i loved my section, very social and friendly. Try to work in a section where its full of people or you will not be having fun, these are sections other than dried goods and tills.
