Does anyone understand Reddit voting?

Leaves me totally perplexed how two people can post pretty much the same comment yet one will get up-voted and the other down-voted?

Bots, time of day (if it's a big subreddit then it'll be heavily skewed towards Americans), some people become anathema to the wider subreddit such that enough people remember their previous commentary such that regardless of the content of their comment it will be downvoted (often deflected by people wasting their own time making new accounts regularly to post contrary opinions) and some folks are shadowbanned which requires a moderator to approve their message before it's seen by others.

Oh also whether or not the post has lost momentum as once interest in it peaks votes slow to a crawl.

It's one of the internets mysteries.

I've seen good / factual content downvoted, and I've seen pure trash get upvoted. I'm amazed it's not driven the community away.

The voting system discourages discussion because any opinion that disagrees with the mainstream opinion of that sub gets downvoted to hell and then hidden. There is literally a sub called "change my view" which is designed for people to post stuff that disagrees with the mainstream, yet the voting system massacres it.

Post something factual that's unpleasant to hear and watch the downvotes role in.

People look to confirm their biases, not hear the painful facts.

This forum will descend into the same nonsense if the voting system was activated. There's something about people and numbers or watching things tick up or down that I cannot get my head around. It appears to mean a lot to them

The human element and the art of communicating the english language is also getting lost. So many people don't want to discuss things anymore, good or bad, loved or hated. Everything is bandwagon reactions. You just have to look across the Internet today to see how people cannot communicate normally. Everything is about point scoring. To achieve what? To fit in with the mob they cannot see?

I don't ever remember the Internet like this in the 2000s. It was a totally different place. People loved to discuss without wanting to actually rip each others throats out.

That's because the generation that grew up with the internet from its infancy (us) is now mostly fed up with what it has become, and those always being offended or wanting to argue are either knee deep in woke/PC nonsense or just the type that always wants to be the main character at everything.

There was a time you used to see regularly when they'd say "we'll agree to disagree" then it would end. You never see that anymore. Everything nowadays is, you're either with us or against us with a mob mentality eating away more and more.

This is nonsense, since day one the internet has been full of arguing and trolling.
