Does doing SLi match the clock speeds?

Basically my 280GTX is a standard MSI card @ 600mhz / 1100mhz?

Ive purchased another 280GTX but the differance is, its a BFG OC2 pre overclocked model...

Im just wondering when I put them in the same machine will it try and bring mine upto the BFG clocks or reduce the BFG down to my MSI?

I ask this becuase when I tried installing both cards last night, my MSI card went EXTREMELY hot (like uncomfortable to touch hot). I powered it down as quick as possible and havent tried it since. Anyone know what the issue is?

The fans on both card were spinning too...

Also, does it matter which way and port the SLi bridge goes in?

As far as I am aware, your BFG OC card will be downclocked to match your MSI card. Same principle that applies for installing RAM at different speeds, or a RAID array with a smaller/larger HDD.

In regards to your MSI card running hot, do you have a space between the cards now that they are in SLI or are they neck to neck? Have you checked temperatures?

As for the SLI bridge, port or direction does not matter (correct me if I am wrong)

Yes they are neck to neck. My SLi bridge isnt long enough to reach my 3rd PCI Express slot :(

My MSI Burning hot, BFG was as cool as a cucumber.

Yes, the faster card, in this case the BFG will be downclocked to the MSI speeds.
The one running hot, will most likely be the top one, or the one with the restricted airflow due to the card underneath, thus; you may want to invest in an aftermarket cooler or an Antec Spotcool.

As long as it doesn't go over 90 under load, I'd say you're fine.
The SLI bridge can go in any way but it seems odd that it can't reach the 3rd PCI-E slot, as it's most common to put a card in the 1st and 3rd slot, where the second slot would be for a 3rd SLI card or dedicated PhysX card.

Hmmmm...Ill check (bought it off the bay) its an ASUS 7cm one, so whats the usual gap between the 1st and 3rd PCI express port?

I'd see if you could find a cheap but longer SLI bridge from somewhere. Perhaps someone on the MM with an unused one? Providing a space between your 280s should let the hotter one breathe and therefore drop the temperatures..
