Surely though, you could crack the password and logon to someone elses account over a network connection?

This is another problem with EFS, the encryption is only as strong as the user account password.

Nobody would be able to access my online banking if they did get access to my PC - the site only asks for specific characters of my password.

Unless he was stupid and had all the details saved in plain text, in which case he kinda deserved what he got!

EFS is a fantastic addition to Windows except it has a few major weaknesses, mainly that it is linked to your windows account logon information.

The only sure fire way to encrypt a disk is too used an application that encrypts the disk before bootime, such as pointsec.
