Does heat effect Vcore required

I have a QX9650 running at 3.85Ghz at 1.352 Vcore as reported by CPUz. It's air coolled by a Tuniq Tower 120 in an Antec 900 case. According to Core Temp 0.97.1 the cores idle at around 40 C rising to 55 C under load. If I used water cooling to reduce these temps, would I be likely to increase the overclock without increasing the Vcore, ie does a hotter CPU require higher Vcore for the same speed?

If your load temps are only 55c then I would wouldn't be worrying about watercooling just yet.

Yes, reducing the temperature will allow you to overclock more, though the difference between good air and water is fairly minimal these days.

Thanks for your help, just can't seem to get this CPU any higher without increasing Vcore. It's totally stable at 3.85Ghz and boots into XP at 4Ghz but fails a few stress tests at this level. Don't want to chance increasing the Vcore on this chip beyond Intel specs as, knowing my luck, it would probably fry. Hi Cob, is Traks still on the go in Portrush?
