*Update* 08/07/2008
Built my system and dont know how to set raid 0 on msi p45 neo-f (raid compatible)

e7200 1.2vish 20c idle
2gb geil 6400 800mhz 4-4-4-12 1.9-2.0v ram
hd 4850 50c idle
Antec 900 20c temps
2 36GB Raptors
200gb (storage BROKEN)

I was overclocking my setup by increments of 10-20mhz and got all the way to 3.4ghz
1.34 cpu
2.1 ram
auto
auto
auto
ram timing 4-4-4-12
Temps were 53 on 1 core and 40 on the other (real temp)
Ram was running around 900-+ (If i went above 900 couldnt post

I set my cpu to 3.4ghz and booted fine, i loaded into windows and had some kind of failure message, it basically corrupted my install and repair wouldnt work either so i had to re-install - i first need to find out how to raid

Secondly i want to know why my overclocks are stable for 30minutes yet when i restart after installingg a program my pc wont boot but after pressing the power button on/off it boots fine and runs orthos blend prime 95 etc fine without the sign of any problems?

Why is this?

Really need to know which motherboard.

And tbh only you can tell us if it's a good CPU by overclocking it.

msi p45 neo-f mobo

edit - i also figured that the voltages may be better on some cpu's than others - ie lower voltage = better and that the cooling is really nice giving me headroom, coz 24c seems really cold compare to my old CPU

Eww MSI.

Just read the overclocking guide at the top of this forum, and have a go. That chip should do well :)

If that ram is anything like my ram it will do 500 fsb with ease. my black dragon does a 1000 5,5,5,12 with 2v

If you do have a problem it will be the board. The MSI P31 and P35 Neo F boards were the worst boards i have ever used. Very basic bios options, buggy as hell and the P31 corrupted the hdd. Cheap and nasty rubbish. I only hope the P45 is different, although looking at a picture of it it looks like they stuck to the same formula.

8x400 easly on that CPU with decent cooling I would say.
And your geils with love every bit the fsb you give them:).
They should do 435-440fsb with 4-4-4-12. That would leave you with 3.4ghz CPU and C4 timings which is sweet.

would use realtemp see what it reports the temps as tend to be more accurate on the 45nm CPU.. quite a difference there tho on the cores.. would check the heatsink is seated properly

So am i safe to ramp my fsb to 435 and leave the multiplier?

I didnt say that ;-). I said that your memory will be capable of that FSB with C4 timings :).

What you will get on your CPU that only you will know when you test.

Disable speedstep,c1e and other useless stuff.
Set voltage to VID (1.21 for your CPU - ... Damn thats low man, nice chip there)
Set RAM voltage to 2.0-2.1v and the ratio to 1:1 ( or x2 divided - depends on mobo).

Then start rising FSB by little, lets say 100mhz steps, later at top by 30-50.
I think you can easly start with 9.5x310 on that CPU.

After each increase do stability test ( few hrs of mem test and orthos/prime ).
If it doesn't crash and everything is fine, get back to bios and increase FSB by another 10.

If you get a crash then increase a voltage by tiny bit ( like from 1.21v to 1.22 / 1.23v ) and repeat ;-).

Keep repeating with testing/voltage/fsb untill you get to the limits - REMEMBER to keep the load temperature under ~65c.
When you get to that temp that would be your limit.

ENJOY

my cpu didnt want to boot using 4-4-4-12 timings on my ram when my cpu was at 2.6ghz
I dont know if its not enough voltage by my mobo or what?

Having 1:1 ratio with my ram was bringing it really high when increasing the FSB by very little, it was running 950+ and that was nowhere near 2.7ghz?

What about the 1066/800 option, thats what i was using in my bios as my cpu is 1066 and ram is 800

still no joy overclocknug my cpu, which temperature should i rely on aswell?
My PC just crashed as soon as i tried to run prime and my mobo isnt even letting me overvolt to 1.2+
