Does leaving MSN running while you game have a performance impact?

and

If someone PM's while im playing a steam game , will it pop up "over the game"?

Slighlty off topic, why would online / offline appearance make a difference ?

because when someone 1st chats to you whilst your appearing offline the message come in front of everything else so it closes down the game

done it to me a few times

If you can close it...close it.

Why leave it open unless you need to? It's using resources (bandwidth and RAM mostly) no matter how small an amount (a stupid amount of RAM for such a crappy program now you mention it).

Mine is using 2.7MB as I type this; that's with the window closed. It's not going to make any difference at all.

lol  :D.

What cpu do you have? A pentium 3 :p ?

That shouldn't really happen on any modern system...

No No Pentium 4 I'm certain runs at 2.8 lol the whole system is in dire need of replacing. Although switching from a 700X to a 1950X last October stopped the slowdown in most games though.

If you want to talk while gaming, use xfire... you can send and receive PMs without the need to minimize your game.

As for the answer of your question, I will say what others have said. With your system, MSN won't have any noticeable hit on your performance.
