Does my business name give off a negative first impression?

Hi,

Just set up a website for my business, Two Thirds Media. It specialises in photography and video, and with photo/video you normally compose images/film with the "two thirds rule". Hence the name "Two Thirds Media".

I have however had a fair bit of criticism from people on a photography forum saying that the name "Two Thirds" will give people the impression they are not getting my whole effort ie, less than the whole, not quite there, something missing . . . etc etc.

Is this a realistic thing people would really think initially when coming across my business?

I originally really liked the name, but after people have said this I've always had slight doubts.

Would appreciate your thoughts.

Thanks,

Ben.

Having no interest in photography I'm not aware of the two thirds rule so my first impression was based on the name alone and it did make me think that two thirds isn't as good as a whole.

Having said that, it would be the quality of your website and content rather than the name that would attract me to your business or not.

Edit:
i read it in an irish accent, two turds media.
Having just read this I'm now relating your name to poo instead :o

Here is a business trick i will share with you... call it "AAA123 Photos"... that way it will show up at the front of the yellow pages when people are looking.

While it's a useful forum the business side is often a lot more negative compared to other places, very good at picking all the holes but often misses the positives.

As for the name I think it's great, simple to use, easy to make an identity from and you can make up loads of stuff about what the other 1/3rd is.

2/3rds the price too ;)

If you are targeting people who wont know what you mean then its a bad name.

I had no idea about the "two thirds rule" thing and straight off the bat "two thirds" sounds like "half assed".

Im not your target audience though!

Surely you should have been looking at this before launch of the website though?

Call it Rule of Thirds Photography then.

Thanks for the comments guys..

I did, I decided it was just a few who thought it. But after making the site people seem to be saying it again.

This is the website for anyone interested by the way: Link removed.

I did try to design the logo around "two thirds".

I really don't think the majority of people will take a negative image from the brand name. It's fine IMO.

Edit: FYI I've removed the link, I don't want this to be business promotion by the back door ;)

Thanks.

And no problem! Sorry wasn't aware and not by any means want it for promotion. Not even any copy on it yet - more so wanted people to comment on logo. :)

I am neutral on the name but I will mention this. There is a pizza shop which I think may be part of a chain near where I live. The place is well decorated, looks cleanly inside and always busy of an evening but I have never had a pizza from them in all the time they have been there. They are called Four Star Pizza. Why they robbed themselves of a star I don't know and I just can't get over that. It's not going to be a five star pizza.
