Does my Focus have ESP?

ESP = electronic stability program so its not a device mounted in the engine bay. If you have a ECU reader it might have something in there.
It will have a component in the engine bay. ESP uses an hydraulic pump just like ABS and will have a seperate control computer to the car's main functions.

I own a Focus ESP – On my car the button by the handbrake has a picture of a car with skid marks behind it. Similar to a slippery road sign.

The button is traction control, which is standard on 2.0 models. ESP is only available on Zetecs and it is NOT standard and I dont think its an option, its a specific model - Zetec ESP afaik.

To clarify for everyone... If the button by the hand brake has a wheel with gravel coming from it, it has traction control. If of has a car with two skid lines, it has ESP. ESP wasn't standard on the 2.0 zetec or the st170. It was only standard on the specific 2.0 Zetec ESP model, and optional on other models.

Its quite easy do get it to kick in, especially on a slippery roundabout.

Looks like I don't have ESP as my button has a wheel with some gravel :(

Oh well, still pleased with my bargain :)

Whilst that sounds like quite good value, are you not worried that you may have difficulty shifting it with all those exterior defects? I would instantly assume the owner didn't care about the car.

Not really, parkers values the car at around £4k so I doubt i'll have any problem whatsoever getting my money back. A few of the scratches will T Cut out. The drivers side rear quarter looks to have been keyed very lightly.

Regardless of whether your car is your baby or not, how can you protect yourself against someone taking a key to it?

switch at the handbrake/gearlever is traction control...esp is passive and cant be switched on and off...try slinging it round a big roundabout and you should see the esp light come on if it has it .

Persil

ESP is an active safety feature, not passive! It can also be switched off in almost all cars, including the Focus (according to blun) :)

my mazda has DSC which is similar to esp and if you turn it off it turns of the stability control and the traction control, i would imagine ford does the same, it would be pretty silly to not be able to turn of the ESP especially if you were stuck in mud or something

I've been informed that you should have a dash light which has the car with skid marks behind it and also on button. The normal TC button will be a wheel with grit flying from it.

edit: woops already been answered my bad.
