I've got 2 years NCB from insuring my cars for the last couple of years but now i'm living in London so can't see myself owning a car for at least a couple of years. Will this be a problem when I come to get insurance in a few years time. Current NCB issuer is Quinn Direct.

yep, it depends on the company how long it lasts for.
can't you buy a written of car and insure it, thus building up a few more years. Get like a written of smart car, and say you wont do more than a thousand miles, don't take out any other stuff. Shouldn't be much to insure. I considered doing it for motorbikes when i moved to uni, wish I did.,

Theres no set period, its completely dependant upon the new insurer.
