Does running at a higher res/refresh really damage your monitor?

I have a 19" crt monitor, reccomended for 1280x960 @75hz and max 1600x1200 @ 60hz, now I have been running it at 1152x864 @ 100hz for most games and desktop, and 1600x1200 @ 72hz for less demanding games. Now windows says these are both supported modes and they give a perfect picture. But I was wondering if they could actually damage my monitor? :p

Very much doubt you could damage it. I would be surprised if it would do a mode that's not supported. Maybe the specs you've read aren't right, I would think most 19" crt monitors can do 1600*1200 @ 75 Hz. Got the make/model number handy?

My crt is fine at 1280 x 960 @120Hz, yet I find it looks sharper at 100Hz, so I keep it at 100Hz. I the monitor would say "out of range" instead of causing damage, so don't worry, it'll be fine even if you run it higher than normal spec. :)
