I've heard so many horror stories about Norton over the years, whenever I get asked to sort out a PC the 1st thing I do is remove it if I find any kind of Norton product on it & use the the free alternatives I use personally at the time. I can say the same about Mcaffee as well. The updates & registering their products after 2005 was a real PITA.
Personally I wouldn't touch norton with a barge pole. I would recommend Nod32 or Kaspersky. They're much better at picking up viruses and both are much less of resource hog
I always feel slightly wary about removing something that the user has paid money for.
A prime example is my aunt who bought Norton 360 I think, even though I had previously told her directly that Norton is horrible and after I had loaded on AVG and Spybot.
Her reckoning was that as she had to pay for it, it must surely be better than a free version.
