Hi guys,

Im after a Samsung R87 HDTV but im stuck as to which size to get! At the moment its between getting the 32 or 37" but ive read on here that the 40"+ ones use better panels - s-lcd? Im going to be using it with Sky+ and my 360, is there a big difference between these panels and would I see a vast improvement over the 26-37" range?

Cheers

What your viewing distance going to be ??? As the viewing distance is one of the most important things when it comes to what size screen to go for....

Same thing is common with plasma screens too, at 50inch the higher resolution panels are common (Excluding Panasonics stunning TrueHD 42inch panel)... I've got the cheaper 42inch 720p Panel... But from my viewing distance I'd pretty much need a 60 inch TV to make full use of a 1920x1080p panel. (IE my 720p plasma looks fantastic at 12 feet viewing distance, very sharp and detailed image... but could be a little bigger!)

6 ' thats very small distance.....sd tv will look quite blocky at that distance with anything larger than 32"
and I'm an avicate for larger is better, but I dont think it will be in your case. however what ever you do buy you will get use to it in a very short time anyway.

bullit

5-6ft on a 42in 1080p panel, with a trueHD source like BluRay or HD-DVD is great, ideal resolution, but for SD TV it will be pretty obvious to see the low resolution of the source. The 1080p panels will also look nicest for X-Box 360 I would imagine... But for broadcast/freeview/sky non HD, its not going to look that nice on a big panel.

Looking at this graph..

As you said 32" would probably be more sensible, but reviews of the Samsung R87 range have said that the 37" set handles SD signals better than the 32". I will be using it with a 360 and for playing DVD's aswell so I would like a big a screen as possible, looked at a 40" but I simply havn't got the space.

If I go for the 37" I may just have to live with the blocky SD image, although I have been looking at upgrading SKY to SKY HD but there are not many channels that I watch that have an associated HD channel.
