Does speed kill?

I don't know if it's still the case, but when i took my test about 12 years ago or so, I didn't have to drive on the motorway or even a dual carrageway in my test, or even in my practice sessions. Amazing that you can learn to drive and pass your test but never get onto the motorway even once. Unless that's changed since?

Learners are not allowed on the motorway, dual carriageways are allowed though.

Passed my test earlier this year and to be honest, I wasn't phased about going onto a motorway for the first time. Just use common sense and you're fine.

Anyways, speed does kill, yes. But like others have said, it depends on the conditions.

The driving lessons started when you went out on the road by yourself. I remember my driving instructor telling me to go on a fast road as soon I passed.

To begin with i was thinking that of course speed kills, but this guy makes a bunch of valid points.

What do you think?

He does make some valid points but I don't think they are especially relevent in this country. We do not have highways with ridiculously low speed limits, or at least not to the extent that is portrayed in that video. 50kph on a highway is stupid.

No, speed doesn't kill, its slowing down really quickly that kills you :p

Seriously though, its pretty much common sense that the faster you or the people around you go, the more serious the injury would be if you bumped into each other

I'd say yes, the faster you are going, the less time you have to react to something unexpected happening. It may not be your fault, but that won't matter if you're dead.

Guns don't kill people rappers do....

errr Speed don't kill people, people who drive 20mph on a motorway, those who can't see properly, those on mobiles phones, those eating their breakfast at the wheel, those distracted by screaming kids in the back, those trying to light a cig at the wheel, those that are just generally bad drivers do !

No, No, No. Speed doesn't kill... It's the rate of deceleration and acceleration that kills you!:p

Motorways are fine, I never understood why people don't like them. As someone that doesn't drive much I find them far less worrisome than town driving where things come at you from every directon.

EDIT: Damn... Too slow...! (ironically!:p)
