Does speed kill?

Last night I accidentally did 31mph in a 30 area, I was shocked, the second I exceeded the speed limit thousands of children, puppies, priceless works of art and endangered species instantly appeared and were instantly sucked under my car; they were of course all killed.

I am now a convert, speeding is truly dangerous, fakt....

Inapropriate speed kills.

perfect example was my own incident in the supra (2nd time)

Within the speed limit however inappropriate speed let to a crash.

All circumstantial.

Maybe because if you speed in a 30 zone (i.e driving around 40mph) then you have increased the chance of a fatal pedestrian crash by a factor of 2!!
Selfish, unacceptable and well worthy of a ban for repeated offenders!!

You could be driving along at 20mph not paying attention and run someone over and kill them, you could be driving along at 40mph notice someone ahead about to run out and slow down in time. It's all relative and it would be nice if there was an emphasis on educating people that you actually need to pay attention and observe your surroundings, not just enforce the 'I'm doing 20 so I'm driving safely' attitude that some people have. There's circumstances where even 20mph is not safe, people need to use their brains more.

Speed is just one factor. Just like these other factors:

Alcohol;
not paying attention;
poor vehicle maintenance;
inexperience;
not driving to the weather/temperature conditions;
drugs;
tiredness;
distractions;
other drivers/vehicles creating a situation;
pedestrians/cyclists creating a situation;
vehicle mass;

Every one of those is a key factor.

Okay let's see...

1: Removing comfort from a car makes it awful so you want to actually scrap the very cars you want to see on the roads?

ok, i'll change that slightly, remove entertainment. no more fiddling with radios not more glances at the phone when you get a message tone. a system like with the convertibles, that says you can't change things like sat' nav' if you are going 30mph+ also stiffer suspension and less noise absorption, less dozy drivers a million miles away thinking about anything apart from the road.

2: How do you discern who is a dangerous person? I have no criminal or bad driving record but I'll pull out a Mac10 in under 3 minutes I'll have you know?

3 strikes and you're out driving tests. some people are not born to be in charge of 2000kg machinery. spatial awareness tests. etc. common sense exams.

3: If people have not had their brakes or tyres changed for so long that they're virtually an unknown thing then how are they using those cars on the roads given that an MOT will flag and fail those cars? Does that mean you're admitting to knowing people who drive cars unfit for the road (read: the very cars you want to see and at the same time scrap!) illegally?!

no, i don't know. i however see really poorly maintained cars every day. rusty white vans with chunks falling off. massively deflated tyres. cars, trucks, buses bikes all dripping oil. blown lights squeaking breaks, fan belts. grinding bearings, wobbling exhausts. all things i see pretty regularly.

4: And to end it all off you want to up the speed limit so people with uncomfortable scrap worthy cars with no brakes or tyres can cruise along being a danger to the rest of us?

they would not be scrap worthy. uncomfortable yes as it stops people dozing into a coma thinking about dinner.

Tsk tsk.
