Does such a spec exist?

I'm tentatively looking for a new laptop, would like it to meet these criteria:

14-15.6"
1080P
Medium i5/4gig Power
No Optical drive (want it light/thin)
No D-Sub connector (again thin/light)
Will probably DIY in an SSD drive so HDD spec isn't a big issue

I think what I'm waiting for is the next gen of slightly larger Ultrabooks, I just want this new laptop to feel like a real upgrade from my current Vaio. And if it's still got a big useless ODD drive in there (I've used this one twice in 2 years) it won't feel special. So light for travel, but with a little bit of power on tap still, light gaming now and again hopefully. RTS/FPS stuff.

I didn't say budet, my current Vaio cost £750 so something around there would be good, want to leave the price open for now though and just see if laptops like my wishlist are out there!

Didn't know there was a baby 14" Dell XPS, almost fits the bill!

The Dell is quiet Heavy at 2kg it is the same as the new Sony Vaio S15.

Personally me and my gf are looking for some new laptops, the new S15 is really good, very nice IPS 15" 1080p screen, its the same 2kg, price is ok, feels really nice and looks good. Only thing is the battery is around 5hours or so.

Just saw this review, thought it might give you a nice insight.

Appreciate that Fallen,

Current 15.6" Vaio E series is 2.7Kg with a battery that doesn't last more than an hour now and a hot and thirsty Gen1 I5 in there.

The new 15" E series only has rubbish res available though, they have a 1600X900 in 14" which might be my lower limit and slightly minimally specced is £650 The nicer S is closer to a grand!

Vaio S15 is thin and light (<2kg) but comes with an optical drive. I guess other than that you're looking at the vaio Z (but it's 13") or some variety of Apple

If you get the S15, with a i5 remove the useless software they try to bundle with it, it was £803, thats with 4GB ram which is just 1 stick, so you can buy another 4GB for mayve £20 and your sorted. The i5 handled everything really smoothly when me and my GF were in the sony shop 2 days ago. It has a very big touchpad which was smooth and very nice to use, I fired up a some cpu stress tests and it wasnt so bad, my gf currently has an old dell which burns her lap.

The screen is really really good, apart from Reds look a little on the orange side (nothing as bad as I read on the internet) it was prefect. IPS allowed for amazing view angles, its has a Matte finish but it still retains the same colours and punch as a glossy screen, reflection were very hard to show up which was a big plus even compared to the new retina MBP (Really dont see why they dont atleast give the option for such an expensive machine). Overally its a very nice machine.

Also on the SSD side of things Ive read online that it is very easy to remove the HDD and switch it for a SSD, it is also not to bad to Chuck the ODD out and plug a HDD there so should cover all your bases.

The cheapest I can see it online is £830 (at Sony website) I know what you mean about removing the software, what a sneaky tactic!
*** edit, I added a silver cover, hence the price difference, just realised***

But at £830 it's onboard gfx only :( +£140 for the 2gig card

I'm happy to RAM/SSD upgrade myself, a lot cheaper as you say!

Obviously we can't post links, but does the Asus UX32VD have a retail presence in the UK I'm only getting dodgy ebay imports when I search?
Not on the rainforest or other etailers?

Hmm, the new Intel 4000 IGPU is not so bad, its like a lower end GPU now, you cant play anything really new but older or less demand games run well. The 640m is a much faster card then the 640m LE, so I would recommend that and you can save a bit.

Think I'm going for the S15

decided can't live without a numpad, it's also a very light and thin thing for it's size, current 15.5" Vaio is 2.7KG S15 is 2KG !

Also cheap in Korea (ish) 22% ish :)
