Does the PS3 analogue controller have 'too much play'?

I downloaded the demo of UEFA 08 on the ps3, after months of playing the 360 version of fifa. It struck me when playing it, just how much more travel the PS3 controller has over the 360, and i found it a little offputting to be honest.

Does the new rumble PS3 controllers have a little less play in them than the older ones?

If you're talking about deadzone then yes, the PS3 controllers do have a lot of it.
The DS3's are apparently better but still not as sharp as Xbox360's, but an improvement was definitely required.

Its very apparent playing GT prologue as well. Hadn't noticed it before. Which DS3 wold hurry its bum getting here from japan :(

I have played GT5P with both and i definitely think the DS3 is a lot better than the sixaxis in terms of the analogue controls... but maybe its just the placebo effect with the better weight and build quality who knows :p

Like the OP said, I said it didn't feel right from day one, but it was Fifa 08 demos which really showed it up as I had the demo on both consoles. I'd spent ages playing it on PS3 as that was released first, and noticed it the second I started moving on the Xbox360 version.

As for Prologue, I didn't think it was as bad as other games. I get paid next Wednesday, I'm thinking of finally picking up a DS3 as I've intentionally been saving.

Trust me, it's a misinformation and the placebo affect!!! Only 2 months ago people were saying the analogue on the 40gb models is the same as that of DS3s (implying both DS3 and 40gb pack Sixaxis are the same bar rumble).

(I only mention this as divaboy has the new revision so in theory he is likely to be disappointed when he gets the DS3 as the analogue, by all accounts is the same as on DS3s atm!)

(Metalface Mark's might be valid as I think he has a an original Sixaxis from the old packs)

i that case i stand corrected, but i disagree that people would be disappointed in the upgrade... its worth it alone to feel the rumble strips on the curbs in GT5P :p

plus i got the white one, so its even more worth the upgrade for looking so damn sexy :D

Just ordered my DS3 as i have heard so many good things from people on this forum, and i am really not a fan of the sixaxis, it feels like it is about to break at any time

To be fair I had to buy a new controller anyway so thought may as well get DS3 since there cheaper the sixaxis. If nothing else it will rumble :p

My Sixaxis analogue sticks are nothing like the ones on my DS3, they are in a whole different league, this was more then evident this weekend when the battery ran out on my DS3 and had to switch to my Sixaxis to play more Vegas2, my crosshair was jumping and skipping all over the place.

Yeah but you like me have the original ones that came with the 60GB. By all accounts the deadzone "problem" is fixed in both the DS3 (Which I have) and the newer Sixaxis in the 40Gb pack (from what I have seen on these forums). That's why I was saying that someone with the 40GB should not have the problems that Metalface described with his old controller. hence it may be a Placebo affect or the result of reading too much misinformation on forums.

The sixaxis analogues feel stiff and hard to control with precission. The DS3 on the other hand is up there with the xbox 360 analogue. Really great for racings games and FPS, well worth the money if you own a PS3.

Absolutely

Gonna order a DS3 tonight after reading some replies, i do have an early ps3, and it has a lot of travel, i have noticed the deadzone firstly on GT5 and then on the Uefa demo.

Sorry, but what is this thread about? I don't quite understand what you guys mean :p

The deadzones on the analogue sticks; i.e. how much you have to move the stick before movement is picked up accurately. The PS3's launch Six-Axis are notoriously for having quite a large deadzone.
