Ive wondered this? What does she do?
Does she have any control of England or is she just there for no particular reason except for opening major events

Edit: Does she have the power to invade a country if she pleases?

She has certain powers but is merely there because no-one has the balls to get rid. She doesn't fulfill any real capacity except visiting foreign nations, who I'm assured think a lot more of the royal family than we do.

She brings in huge amounts of tourist revenue.

w00t, got in there before anyone tried to claim that she costs a fortune.

*waits for Gilly to abuse his don hat*

yep she has pretty much no power over the government at all. i think she swears in new pm's but i think its only for tradition purposes.

Royality costs us taxpayers a damn fortune thats what they are there for.
I see no point in having them at all. Sure its nice for tourists to see buckingham palace etc, see if the queens in. Thats my opinion of course, others may well disagree.
But you think of how many millions they cost the taxpayer each year, how much it costs us to look after, maintain, staff, safequard, police, supply security etc for them and there property each year.

Another thing that gets my goat up is that royality has 1000's of priceless works of art, glorious property, stunning coaches, etc etc and we, THE ones who PAY for it all. Cannot see most of it, some of the priceless works of art are not shown to the public at all, Its in there private collection, which we THE taxpayer pay to have restored etc.

Oh i could go on, but no point. dont you find the older you get the more politics really makes an inpact on you.

Sure it's nice to have them. But do we need to support everyone of the offsprings ?

Oh another thing, If i want to go round Buckingham palace for example, I have to pay, now i live in the UK, I pay my tax's and have done for years, so I should get in free. like most of the UK residents. Just charge tourists from overseas is my thought.

Why should I pay for something i have contributed towards.

Same goes for No10, I want to be able to walk in there, put my feet up on a couch, have a coffee, watch some TV and chill out. After all No10, is owned by the taxpayers. Same as 100's of other things. But can i get in there. Nope, Im not that brave, id be shot!

Ahem.

She does have the power to collapse parliment I think. Blair and the Queen meet up often to discuss whats going on. I think the Queen has the power to put her foot down if she so wishes.

She had the power to exile your criminal ancestors! ;)

She only has symbolic power such as the opening of parliment and the PM has to ask her if he can dissolve the government at general election time etc.. She never refuses anything done by the government but if she did I think there is a law in place to overrule her. She is also the symbolic head of the Church of England.

Her most important duty is to pose for photos that are printed onto mugs and tea towels that we flog, at extortionate prices, to rich American toursits. Oh, and she has a gert big 'ouse in the smoke and a few country cottages. :)
