SATA 500GB need a cooling fan, or can i get away without one........

it is placed in its own bay.........above the intake fan, it has no cooling right now. ....this pc isn't finished yet so i have no idea how hot it'll get

Hard to say, install the hard drive and monitor the temps over a period of time.

Got two of the Blue varieties in my machine. I had them both bungee suspended towards the top of the 5 1/4" bays but they got up to 55 and 56 degrees and needed some active cooling eventually. I've taken the hottest and topmost drive and suspended it in the bottom of the case next to a vent hole and the temperatures of both have dropped to 41-45 and 37-41 respectively, all passive now.
