Does this build seem ok?

Hey

I think I've got everything nicely married up here but thought I'd check here to see if anyone else saw a problem (cooler not fitting, not enough headers on the board etc)
I was gonna build a mini itx rig, but I might has well just build another full size system.
I'd plan to double up on the ram later down the line.
I was a bit concerned about 750w power not being enough but my calculations suggest it'd have plenty left in the tank for this system, not planning overclocks for the time being, and if I do, i can always get a bigger unit and use the 750 in a build for my misses

.MSI GeForce GTX 970 Gaming Edition 4096MB GDDR5
.Intel Core i7-4790K 4.00GHz (Devil's Canyon) Socket LGA1150 Processor - OEM
.MSI Z97 Gaming 5 Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard
.Avexir Core Red Series 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-21000C12 2666MHz Dual Channel Memory Kit - Red Light
.Phanteks Enthoo Luxe Full Tower Case - Black
.Corsair Hydro H110i GT 280mm Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler
.BeQuiet Power Zone 750W '80 Plus Bronze' Fully Modular Power Supply
.Samsung 250GB 850 EVO SSD 2.5" SATA 6Gbps 32 Layer 3D V-NAND Solid State Drive
.Pioneer BDC-207DBK 8x BluRay ROM / DVDRW SATA-II Optical Drive - Black (OEM)

Any problems with those parts playing nicely together that I've missed?

Yep that's pretty good for the most part. Only amendments I'd make is the CPU cooler and PSU. This PSU is much better and is still modular for all the optional cables. Noctua NH-D15 is a large air cooler, but it costs less, is easy to install and most importantly it has performance comparable to the Corsair. Water coolers also make sound from the pump, the Noctua is relatively quiet when set up correctly. It is bulky, though it shouldn't be an issue with the case you've chosen.
YOUR BASKET
1 x Noctua NH-D15 Dual Radiator Quiet CPU Cooler with two NH-A15 Fans £77.99
1 x SuperFlower Golden Green HX 750W "80 Plus Gold" Semi-Modular Power Supply - Black £77.99
Total : £165.58 (includes shipping : £8.00 Ex.VAT).

Or just stay with the Corsair cooler, which may require some maintenance down the line. Your money, your choice :)

You might also want to consider this bundle (https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-005-GI) as I prefer Gigabyte boards myself - I have been thoroughly "un-MSI'd" by pastymucher as the BIOS updating software is rubbish and has a high chance of bricking boards

or this bundle - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-012-GI which has a 2 for 1 upgrade offer

2400Mhz RAM is fine, unless you really want the red lights? - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-060-TG

Who are these SuperFlower guys? I honestly can't remeber hearing of them since looking to build a new rig over the course of this last week, but you're now the second person to mention them as an option. Google time I think.
As for the water cooler, I must admit it's a bit self indulgent, I've gone with Be Quite! Air coolers in the past and been happy, but I've not had a water cooler since the early windows vista days so I thought, what the hell? Plus it would match up with the black/red scheme very well

SuperFlower are quite a big OEM, they make some Rosewill power supplies over in America, the EVGA "G2, B2 and P2" power supplies and so on

They are very good, their name doesn't sound premium at first glance but I can assure you they are premium inside :)

Actually both those bundles are quite good option... What's the upgrade thing about on the second one? Didn't see any clear explanation for that.
I'm normally an asus man but didn't come across a board that fit in to the overall plan for this build

As for the red lights on the ram, I didn't register it having that feature until the second time I check the specs, and it did fill me with a childish glee much to my surprise as I'm not normally bothered but things like that.
I just wanted the fastest rated 16gb black+red ram I could get into budget (trying to keep it to £1300 or less really)

Aesthetics is sort of important to this build as long as it's not at the expense of performance.

Essentially, within 3 years of registering the board you can request a new motherboard free of charge :) so that's your "future-proofing" done right there

The TeamGroup stuff is probably better value, you won't notice the difference between 2400mhz and 2666mhz

The UD3H-BK board is a black/gold theme, as the lights on the borad light up a gold colour. For a red/black theme, you'll want to go with the Gaming 7 Gigabyte bundle

I will of course Google all that later but for now, do you know if that's for upgrading only within the same family of boards or would it open up future possibilities for x99 based upgrades?

The main task of this system is to kick the s*** out of my ps4 and xb1 which are being sold to help fund this. I like both those machines but I'm a pc gamer at heart and I really miss being able to mod my games and then alt+tab out to do other tasks lol

If the customers prefers a GIGABYTE motherboard from a future series better or they want to use a new CPU with a different chipset base, their Black Edition motherboard may be returned within three years and they will receive free of charge a brand new next generation motherboards.

So it may only be for the chipset on 1150, not 1151 (Skylake) or so)

hmm... turns out I could maybe stretch to an x99 based system, especially if I run stock cooler for a while, based of this bundle
Asus X99-S - Intel Core i7 5820K Six Core CPU & Motherboard Bundle ***£30 Saving***

**edit** just realised those cpus dont have stock coolers.

Primary focus IS gaming yeah, as a say it'd be replacing my ps4 and xb1, but it will be tasked with other things, mostly low demand stuff (office work, downloading etc), I might dabble with graphic design again but only on a hobby level.

Are you just gaming?

This is the cheapest X99 bundle

1 x MSI X99S SLI Plus - TeamGroup 16GB 2400MHz DDR4 Intel X99 Motherboard Bundle **£40 OFF** £259.94
- 1 x Intel 5820K 3.30GHz (Haswell-E) Socket LGA2011-V3 Processor - Retail (BX80648I75820K) £329.99
Total : £599.53 (includes shipping : £8.00 Ex.VAT).

However, for gaming the 4790k with Z97 is plenty

I would stick with the Z97 then :)

you think it'll fly? it MUST destroy my ps4/xb1 setup lol (that being said, modded skyrim on my old AMD piledriver rig looked better than anything I've seen on a console)

looking at the x99 bundle, if I drop the blu-ray drive and go with the 5820k, I can actually go to a gtx 980 and be coming up only just over the 1300 magic number.
Though I still have to factor in a cooler which is gonna **** that right up

A £500 system will destroy a console, let alone a £1200 or whatever :p

If you want to go X99, then sure go for it. Likely in the future as games make use of more cores, it'll make a difference but right now your GPU will be the limiting factor, not the CPU. The 4790k is a beast CPU either way

Funny thing, the performance of the 5820k doesn't improve much over the 4790k, in a few cases it's even lower. I also agree that the RAM is unnecessarily fast, 2133Mhz is plenty enough. I also agree on Gigabyte boards, the best motherboard manufacturers are Gigabyte and Asus IMO.

I think I'll drop the x99 thing, it's early days for it anyway.
I'll continue with the z97 thing and see if I can squeeze in a gtx980

HA! it worked, nice one.

So I was thinking with that cooler, mount it on the back of the case, and relocate the pre-installed case fan to either the top (double up) or to the front panel.

The ssd isn't black! but it'll be hidden behind the motherboard tray so, what the hell
