Does this count as merge in turn or am I just rude?

Hi chaps. My journey home takes me past Legoland, SW to NE on this map:

http://maps.google.co.uk/?ie=UTF8&h...3048,-0.645318&spn=0.001412,0.002411&t=h&z=19

As you can see, there's a lovely roundabout that at about 6pm weekdays is snarled up with families trying to get home. What you'll find is that on the road I go down there's a queue of about 20 cars sitting at the entrance to the roundabout in the left hand lane or sitting in the keep clear (now a yellow box) with the right hand lane completely empty all the way across the roundabout, past the exit and up to the arrow where the traffic from the left hand lane carries on.

So what I do is go up the right hand lane, across the roundabout and park up at the arrow and then attempt to merge in turn. Of course what this does is **** off the parents stuck in that horrible queue trying to get out of LeogoLand and results in some hair brain manoeuvres such as pulling into both lanes to block me or cutting me up.

So am I rude or is it just common sense? I can't see why there's a two lane roundabout if it's not for going forward, there's no right turn!

to my eyes you are being extremely rude.

Nah tbh it look to me like the left lane should be left and the right lane for straight, or maybe both for straight either way i don't see the problem with what you're doingsdome people really annoy me when they block you off from merging

It'd be more logical to have the left lane as left turn and the right as straight on. As it's not then you can use either lane so logically you should merge in turn at the choke point.

Its obviously totally designed for that which is why there are 2 lanes onto the roundabout. What else is the outside lane for, as there is no 3rd exit, your exit is the last somebody could be reasonably expected to use.

It isnt your fault that the other drivers are all idiots.

He's turning left.

I also suspect the merge in arrows were designed for people going straight across, not turning left - hence why the lane you are using has a big arrow saying turn right.

How is he? He says he is going South West to North East?

Thats straight across?

Yeah but SW to NE isn't queueing out of legoland is it?

Anyway, far cooler than is the fact google have streetview inside legoland itself :D

They are idiots, stuff them and their inability to drive, just force your way in and be done with it.

It's my number 1 pet hate. People quing in single lane, when there are multiple lanes, to ease traffic jams.

If there are 2 lanes on the NE exit then you're entitled to make use of both lanes as far as I'm concerned.

I get something similar on my way to work, 2 lanes off a roundabout which then merges into 1 around 500 yards later. I always blast it down the outside but I've had car and lorry drivers move over to straddle both lanes in an attempt to stop me using that lane.

The car drivers are clearly just being arses and trying to block you, a truck, especially an artic, would - generally - not be thinking of you, more using all of his available space.

I frequently get upset car drivers who think I've "shut the door" on them, many fail to appreciate the door was never open in the first place.

It appears that the only people on the roads that know how to use merge in turn properly is on Ocuk. Brilliant long may it stay that way and I can skip half a traffic jam in 30 seconds.

If in doubt, go around the roundabout, and then exit. Makes you look like less of a nob:D

Unless of course the roadmarkings indicate your allowed to do what you did..

There's a Nissan Figaro on that roundabout in one of the Google images.

The 'merge in' arrows on the road must be there in the expectation that there will be two 'lanes' of traffic exiting the roundabout. Now, it would help a lot if there were white lines marked, that might 'legitimise' things in some drivers' minds!
