Another 'help me' type thread and didn't want to hijack the others. Just installed a 120GB Vertex Bigfoot drive today.

This is what CDM is showing. I think I have AHCI set properly as a new thing appears in BIOS at bootup called iaStor AHCI BIOS.

Is there any easy to read list of 'must do' optimisations or does Win7 do it all automatically?

Intel i5@4GHz
4GB Corsair XMS2 RAM
Gigabyte P55-UD5
Sapphire ATI 5850

It's fine. No need to do any optimisations, if you run a windows performance test it'll detect the SSD and make any appropriate tweaks.

The numbers don't match the ones that are advertised becasue all the Sandforce controller drives use real time compression on the data, so speeds are dependent on how compressible the data is. Benchmarks like AS-SSD, and apparently CrystalDiskMark also, use completely random data that shows you the worst case results. The ATTO benchmark uses a repeating pattern of data that can be compressed easily, so it will show you best case results. Real world performance is somewhere in the middle.

Great thanks - if I want to reinstall windows do I need to do a special format or can I just click 'format' in the windows 7 setup menu? Will this make any difference?

Wondered why my 4k writes were so bad... then found out that because I did not create a new partition when installing Windows 7 and instead had restored a partition which failed then installed using the existing partition.... that my SSD was not properly aligned. Downloaded and ran Paragon Alignment Tool 2.0 so this is how it should be http://img708.imageshack.us/i/crystaldiskmarky.jpg/
