Hi, this is my first attempt at putting together a system, could you let me know if I've made any stupid choices or forgotten anything? thanks.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Inno3D GeForce GTX 780 iChill HerculeZ X3 Ultra 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (C78V-1SDN-L5HSX) £379.99
1 x ReFlex Asus Z87 - Intel Core i5 4670K @ 4.2GHz Configurable Gaming Bundle £106.01
- 1 x Corsair Hydro H80i High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler £74.99
- 1 x TeamGroup Vulcan GOLD 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17100C11 2133MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLYD38G2133HC11ADC01) £59.99
- 1 x Intel Core i7-4770K 3.50GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - OEM £227.99
- 1 x Standard Build Laptops - Approximately 3 to 5 working days £0.00
1 x Antec P100 Mid Tower Silenced Computing Case £74.99
1 x Corsair Builder Series CX 600W V2 '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply (CP-9020048-UK) £59.99
1 x Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST2000DM001) HDD £59.99
Total : £1,053.53 (includes shipping : £8.00).

You don't have an SSD in the basket - other than that, everything is present (assuming you have an monitor, peripherals, and an OS). I've got that 780 and it is epic :) The PSU isn't great, though. Do you want a motherboard bundle or would you be happy putting it together yourself?

What will the PC be used for? What is your budget?

I'm mostly interested in the bundle to get it ready overclocked, not really confident enough to do that myself.
no idea about the psu either. Other than the basic wattage, what's the difference?

I already have a spare ssd though so that's ok. The system will be used for a bit of everything; gaming, 3d animation/rendering, video editing, and whatever else comes up. Trying to keep it under £1000

I may be wrong here but maybe you should consider a 770 and a 4770k for your needs especially if you're only gaming at 1080p on a 60Hz monitor. A 770 will push most games to 60fps on max settings and a 4770k is better for productivity.

Again, I may be wrong so it would be good if someone with more experience could clarify.

EDIT: Benchmarks I provided were kinda old, never mind.

EDIT2: Looking at newer benchmarks the 770 doesn't seem to quite hit consistent 60fps on a lot of "next gen" titles.

Here's a spec with separate parts rather than a bundle:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Inno3D GeForce GTX 780 iChill HerculeZ X3 Ultra 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (C78V-1SDN-L5HSX) £379.99
1 x Intel Core i7-4770K 3.50GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £233.99
1 x Gigabyte Z87-HD3 Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £82.99
1 x SuperFlower Golden Green HX 650W "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply - Black £79.99
1 x Antec P100 Mid Tower Silenced Computing Case £74.99
1 x Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST2000DM001) HDD £59.99
1 x TeamGroup Vulcan ORANGE 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLAD38G2400HC11CDC01) £55.99
1 x Alpenföhn Matterhorn Pure Edition CPU Cooler £29.99
Total : £1,007.52 (includes shipping : £8.00).

4.2ghz shouldn't be too complicated to achieve - just a case of going into the BIOS and changing the core clock and volts. Nothing fancy. If you do want to go for the bundle save yourself a bit of money on the cooler. The Alpenfohn Brocken is a fair bit cheaper than the h80i, and you get the same overclock with it.

The above spec has 8gb RAM to keep it under £1000. Ideally you'll want 16gb for video editing and whatnot. You could just about fit 16gb in the budget if you got a 290 instead of the 780.

thanks a lot guys, that is really helpful :)

one more question though, would a liquid cooler be quieter than an air cooler?

also any other suggestions for making it run quieter? I render overnight a lot and when I'm trying to sleep it gets annoying.

The P100 is a good choice of case if you want it to be quiet. If you like the idea of an mATX build (which might be preferable - to keep it close to budget I had to spec components that won't support SLI anyway) I'd recommend the Aerocool Dead Silence.

Anything with fans will make some noise - case fans, cooler, PSU, and GPU. Case fans can be easily replaced, so I'd say wait until you've got the case and then decide if you want to buy new ones. If you do: Enermax Clusters are reasonably priced, perform well, and are practically inaudible.

An air cooler is as quiet as the fan it comes with - again, this is easy to replace if necessary. Water coolers will also produce noise from the pump - there isn't anything you can do about that, but it isn't the kind of thing you'll be able to hear from across the room.

The Superflower PSU in my spec should be quiet. The Inno3D 780 is quiet.

Mechanical hard drives also make some noise. WD Green drives will be better than the Seagate one in my spec.

thank you all for your suggestions, I decided to go for the bundle in the end, reading about installing the cooler got me a bit scared :S
I could probably manage it but I think I'd rather pay a little extra and avoid the risk tbh.
I'll stick to 8gb ram for now I think, it's easy enough to put more in later.
added a couple of things as well, I only use dvds and memory cards once in a blue moon, but it's always a hassle finding an external reader when I do need one so it's probably worth the cost.
Just to check, there will be room for all this + an ssd and 2nd hdd right?

I think I'll be ordering this today unless anyone has any better ideas.

The Antec case is out of stock, so it could delay your order. Also the GPU has gone back up to £399 :(

I would either choose a different case, or you could check with customer services to see when the Antec case is due back in.

DAMMIT! should have ordered yesterday like I was going to >:(

are there any other similar cases available? I like the simple design and the door.
and do you think that GPU is still worth it?

oh hang on, that card comes with a copy of watch dogs now? that's not so bad then...
I didn't think it was out til next month though?

Nanoxia Deep Silence, Fractal Design Define R4 would be my top 2 shouts.

For something a little different, maybe the Fractal Design Node.

Edit: Neither of which seem available through Overclockers...

I asked and the case will be back in stock next week, but I was too slow for the bundle deal so this is the spec I'm going with now:

oops... thanks for spotting that

just when I'd finally made my mind up... :/
will the newer motherboards be more expensive do you think? i'd be happy to wait a few weeks to get better performance for the same price.
or maybe will the haswell processors be cheaper after the new version comes out?
