Hi ya guys, just want to know if this program exists, basic I need something that can, map a hard drive, so I can look at all the files on it without it being connect,

Is this possible

without it being connect?

Do you mean over a network? If so then its built in to Windows, or Mac OS or Linux.

or do you mean something like acronis where you can backup the contents of a HDD to a file which can be mounted, or opened to view the files/folders?

sorry about the wording, yep want a program that would allow me to explore a drive with out it being connect, so to see what files are on it

Do you want to make a text file with a list of every file on the drive, so that you can read this when the drive is not connected? If so the above command will do this for you, "man ls" if you want to refine it.

I don't really know what you're asking, as it's grammatically erratic and I struggle with this.

You should have posted this in one of the software sections. I'm assuming you're using linux as this is well laid out for tasks like the one I believe you are undertaking. If instead you're using some varient of windows you will struggle to get ls to behave.

How about...

list of all directories, and all files within them, from recursive ls
then unplug drive
then touch each line in sequence from the recursive list

this should generate a directory that looks the same as the removed drive, though if you check for file sizes none of them will be accurate. perhaps create sparse files of appropriate sizes, one for each file in the original? Still a slightly mental undertaking though, and I can't think of any use for it

to my understanding of what your asking, i don't thing there is such a thing in the world, that allows u to look at the files on a drive that not connected to anything...would just be a few disks and a metal arm in a rectangular shaped box sitting on a desk.

im sorry its late....or early...depends who you are.

night

..or morning

does this drive have some sort of wifi capability or something ?
how can you search it if its not connected to anything ?

I see no reason why you couldn't make a record of the folders and files on a disc, however have no idea if anything like that exists.

you could always get a programme to view the folders in a tree like view and take screen shots if thats what ur asking.

tbh i still dont know what ur asking.

dir /s /ah *.* >c:\dir.txt

this will list everything on the drive in a tree format with all file names directed to a txt file.
