i bought a new 1660 ti for my daughter, from a certain auction site at an offer of 175 quid, now an hr later i get email saying they only have a reburbed one in stock, but would drop price by 75 quid, to make it £100, or they said they look see if theres another model available.
now i looked up this company and they are in administration, i know i protected under that auction place, but whats you feelings on this one, take the refurb for £100 or walk away?
cheers in advance

Good evening,

Thank you for your purchase. The warehouse team has just advised that the only one we have left in stock is a refurbished version of this specific model. I am able to refund you £75 if you wish to take the refurbished one. Or I can see if we have anymore GTX 1660 TI’s but that will have a different EAN code.

Please let me know

Be careful, if you buy outside the website you are not covered and if they're in administration then orders may be unfulfilled at any point.

they just replied, and tbh £100 seems about right for used Ti
as its though that auction place im protected, but its niggling me, as there was 2 of these cards being listed and 1 still there, just smells bad,lol
The refurbished one has been fully tested and is in working order; They were used to test PCs that we build for our company; We are a PC company that builds only new PCs and we do not have refurb PCs unless we are selling those that have been used by employees. All refurbished components that are being sold were used for testing returned PC's to find out the faults of the PC.

Smells like they are phishing people in to the new price then saying sorry we are out but have one mined on gpu as a refurb... Smells fishy then it is usually.. personally I would avoid.

Are they a legit company selling stuff there or some random made up company or person ?

they are fairly well known company,and have a good rep looking at reviews, but in administration at the moment, but im obviously protected if anything goes wrong, they have plenty cards listed as new, but im suspecting, they mostly refurbed,lol

Sounds a bit sus, get a refund imo and walk away.
it does, ive delayed until monday as want more info on the card. they confirmed the refund would come through original listing for my protection
I don't have anyone in the warehouse to ask until Monday - but it will be nearly packaged - and we also stock it nicely packaged so it doesn't get damaged.
Usually they are boxed or bubble wrapped so its kept nicely on the shelf however I can confirm on Monday;

I will wait for you to ask your daughter and I will also confirm with the warehouse on Monday - if your happy with the refund I will have everything sorted out Monday first thing for you;

run, run as fast as your legs can carry you. I bet its been spanked to within an inch of its life mining.

If they are in administration, then you will have no warranty once they go under, being a second hand card.
Just avoid the place at all costs.

had a think about this last night, being its bought on that auction place im fully protected, and its being offered with 14days return, so was thinking of getting it, and giving a rigorous stress testing, it can always go back, either under 14 days or under not as described, so either way im fully protected and the money back guarantee, i cant really lose.

i do think its shady though, like listing new cards, they obviously dont have and offering buyer a big discount to take a used/refurbed model, makes me think how many other of those new gpu's arent new, maybe they been told to dump their stock by the administrator and every item they have listed has "make an offer" on them, which does suggest they trying to offload stock asap, before maybe going to the wall. being used, theres no warranty anyway.

thoughts?

It does sound a bit dodgy but I'd personally want more than just the 'about right' used price if they screwed up otherwise you can just go anywhere else, even to sellers who actually know what they're doing.

Used is completely fine as long as you're happy to burn the extra time verifying the condition of the equipment and dealing with any problems that arise like the returns process.

Quoted for emphasis. If the manufacturer asks for proof of purchase and you show them an auction site related invoice with 'refurb' on it, they're likely to refuse.
