Me and a online friend have just purchased vBulletin as we were not happy with the way gaming forums were being run. At the moment we are customising it with plugins.
vB and the host has cost us quiet abit of cash so we want to try and make it back. As well as put any spare cash towards prizes for tournaments etc. One ways I thought of earning this back is through affiliate links. It's not a intrusion to the forums so everyone's a winner.
Being a gaming forum we will pick the sites people order their games from.
Now the plugin idea I had is this. A member starts a thread say about Halo 3. On the thread creation page there is tick box next to the poll tick box. When this is ticked and they hit the submit, before they are taking to the newly created thread they are shown another screen like the poll screen. They have 4 text input boxes where they can add the link to the game from 4 online stores. When submitted the plugin will then turn those links into links with the affiliate code added to them.
So now the plugin has created 4 affiliate links but what to do with them. Well I thought it could then add buttons with the links added on the first post. Like so:
So that's one way but I also thought that maybe adding the links from different sites is a little too much to ask for the user. So then I thought what about a drop down box on all create a thread pages. This box would list games and all a user needs to do is select one. Then it would produce the same result in image 2. All the links is done in the admin where the admin can add a new game and add the links to different stores.
I just wanted to know if I have explained this right and from script guys if it can actually be done?
