Does this work?

You can use any single card from ATI or Nvidia in any AMD or Nvida chipset AMD motherboard.

If you want Crossfire and SLI then it becomes a bit more complicated.

Ok well im looking at two builds, one for AMD and one for Intel.
I'll post them here, so could you tell me which ones better and if they're compatible.

Thanks.

Here's the AMD build :
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 6950 "Dual Fan Edition" 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card with FREE DIRT3 Game £199.99
Asus Crosshair IV Formula AMD 890FX (Socket AM3/AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard £144.98
AMD Phenom II X6 Six Core 1090T Black Edition 3.20GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail £125.99
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-Bit - OEM (GFC-00599) £79.99
Corsair Enthusiast Series TX 650W V2 High Performance '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply (CMPSU-650TXV2UK) £67.98
Cooler Master Storm Scout Gaming Case - Black £64.99
Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C10 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (BL2KIT51264BA160A) £49.99
Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (HD103SJ) £44.99
Samsung SH-S222AB/BEBE 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £16.99

Total : £810.90

I would strongly recommend going for a sandy bridge system (P67/i5 2500K) over a Phenom II X6. Its faster in pretty much any test and can overclock a lot further.

I would also go for this PSU - similar design to the corsair, same price but modular cables.

That works,

It is Crossfire (dual card) compatible.

If its for gaming then a quad core CPU (955be. 965be etc) is a better choice.

Heres a better modular PSU - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-117-AN&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=1088

And a cheaper newer 990 chipset - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-462-AS&groupid=701&catid=1903&subcat=2046

So you have a Gen3 motherboard for better future upgrades.

The difference between even a 1090t CPU and a i5 2500K is a lot - http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/288?vs=146

Stulid if I replace the mobo you said to on the intel build will it be pretty futureproof.
Also will it be able to run most new games maxed out at 1080p and finally which build should I go with?

Thanks.

The gen3 has PCI_E3.0 for future graphic card release (but its all backward compatible etc) and Ivybridge is released next year which also goes into the board.

http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=Z68 Extreme4 Gen3

It will run at 1080p and the motherboard and PSU are able to run in SLI etc, so adding a second GTX560ti is a simple task.

Ah I see, so if I add a second GTX560ti how do i make them SLI?
Whats this "Ivybridge" too?
Cheers.

You slot the second GTX560ti into the second 16X PCI-E slot, give the card power from the PSU (it has 4 PCI_E power connectors, two per card) and then apply a SLI bridge between the two, the Nvidia driver should recognize the second card and do the rest automatically.

Ivy bridge is a new CPU from Intel due early next year.

Also, please bear in mind that the SLI bridge will come with the motherboard - so you won't need to buy that separately.

As for Ivy Bridge - it is the next generation of intel CPUs after their current "sandy bridge" chips. They are expected to come out ~April next year, use intel's new 22nm process and be ~20% faster clock-for-clock compared to sandy bridge. Most importantly for you, they are expected to work correctly in P67 and Z68 motherboard - so long as the manufacturers release a relevant BIOS update.

Does the SLI bridge come with the mobo or do i have to buy it seperately?

Sorry if im asking a lot of questions.

Yes it does, its even mentioned in the accessories,

- 1 x ASRock SLI_Bridge_2S Card
- Quick Installation Guide, Support CD, I/O Shield
- Floppy Cable
- 4 x SATA Data Cables (optional)
- 2 x SATA 1 to 1 Power Cables (optional)
- 1 x 3.5mm Audio Cable (optional)
- 1 x Front USB 3.0 Panel
- 4 x HDD Screws
- 6 x Chassis Screws
- 1 x Rear USB 3.0 Bracket
